Taxi and car seat - what to do

Holiday planned for tomorrow and I confirmed with taxi company today just to be 100% sure.

they wrote back and said there is no car seat for baby (despite my
booking one). They said the law doesn’t require a car seat and their contract driver doesn’t have one. They said we can use our car seat and they’ll hold onto it for us until we get back - but we have an isofix which is quite hard to fit and only works in some cars.

this is very annoying but I’m not sure what to do now.

  1. Cancel whole trip -100s down the drain.
  2. just hold the baby (30 minute trip)
  3. try to fit the seat (may not work)

im quite annoyed as this company has been good in the past. Im not sure what to do. Any advice welcome.

I’d do option 4) - book a different taxi.

If it's an isofix seat it should just slot into yhe back seats, that's the point of isofix, easy! If the taxi is old, you can fix it in with the seat belts. If you're still unsure book with another taxi firm.

Have a lovely holiday Smile

It’s tomorrow though so…not sure we can get one (in quite a rural area).

Any one you know with a belted seat that might be willing to swap car seats? But i reckon you will be fine with isofix, all cars have it, the taxi isn’t going to be ancient!

PuttingDownRoots · 13/11/2022 12:19

How old?

I'd be tempted to pick up an emergency multistage seat today for this and other trips.

MummyDummyNow · 13/11/2022 12:19

Well there's only one way to find out...give them a ring!

Geranium1984 · 13/11/2022 14:20

I'd try and book another company if you can.

mynameiscalypso · 13/11/2022 14:22

How old is the baby?

katmarie · 13/11/2022 14:29

What car seat is it? Many of the isofix ones van also be belted in safely where there are no isofix points. If you can tell us the make I'm sure someone will be able to tell you if that's possible with yours.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 13/11/2022 14:41

You can get a car set for about £35 from Halfords/Argos etc, get one today and ask them to hold it for the return journey. I'd rather do that then lose hundreds of ££ and the hooliganism you've been looking forwards to.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 13/11/2022 14:41

Really need an edit button - hooligan = holiday

Where are you going?

theydontspeakforus · 13/11/2022 15:36

How old is the baby?

Hugasauras · 13/11/2022 15:39

If you are likely to do similar journeys in future, I would buy a Joie Steadi. Almost universal seatbelt fit, lightweight and lasts till 18kg. And under £100.

Alternatively if your baby is v young still, a Joie Juva infant carrier is £55 and again a seatbelt fitted, almost universal fit.

I would not hold my baby for a 30-min journey

Hugasauras · 13/11/2022 15:40

Oh and your seat might be able to be belted in, plus Isofix is very easy to fit and most modern cars have it now so I would expect a taxi to,
