But what is it a piss take of?“

Himself.
definitely channelling Hugh Grant, though 😁

MarshaMelrose · 13/11/2022 12:06

OK. I just thought it was a poor man's take of Christopher Walken. Who was fantastic! Now that was a great advert.

MarshaMelrose · 13/11/2022 12:06

Not advert!!!!! Fatboy slim video!!!

Alwaystired99 · 13/11/2022 12:09

I bloody love Daniel Craig but even he doesn't look good in a vest which makes it even funnier. It's a blatant piss take and he looks like he's having a great time. This and Knives Out show how funny he can be.

IrmaGord · 13/11/2022 12:09

I liked it although the daft dancing didn't go far enough. It's obviously a piss take of those high brow perfume and alcohol ads that take themselves too seriously.

Also agree with a pp who said Daniel Craig was brilliant in Our Friends In the North. I think it's been forgotten that he can actually act after his Bond films.

emmetgirl · 13/11/2022 12:10

I think it's quite funny.
I definite would though.

emmetgirl · 13/11/2022 12:11

DEFINITELY
Bloody autocorrect

BanditoShipman · 13/11/2022 12:15

I thought it was really funny

It's really funny, especially the teeth at the end! There are men DC's age out there who really do think they are cool and cutting edge. It is a pisstake of them and of serious adverts that portray them (Depp and Eau Savage for example).

It immediately made me think of the Depp 'sausage' ad!

Plump82 · 13/11/2022 12:22

It makes my skin crawl.

Lulu2171 · 13/11/2022 12:30

Pandapop101 · 13/11/2022 11:47

I think it’s great!

Me too! Very fun.

barskits · 13/11/2022 12:33

People are right - it is camp.

He's moving too softly and wafting about, and he's not fit enough. Makes him look like a pansy. No core strength, and his shoulder and arm movements aren't positive enough. He should have had some decent contemporary dance training to build his strength up before doing that.

Then it would have been good.People think that sort of dance is easy - it's not.

Who's the choreographer, do we know?

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 13/11/2022 12:38

It's interesting hearing different views about it.

I took it as a pisstake on two levels. The first, about the super serious adds people have mentioned. The other, of himself and his previous work.

Now that he's free of being Bond (finally) it's no more tuxedos and being super serious, nor drinking champagne or martinis generally made with Smirnoff. Now he can 'be himself', let loose a bit, dance like no one is watching, and drink Belvedere instead. On the rocks because it's smooth enough to not require the vermouth even being waved at it.

hostawater · 13/11/2022 12:44

Ha! Daniel's no Gene Kelly but that's surely the whole point.

can't understand why he didn't get to gasp 'I'm a daaaancer!!!' as he wafted down the street-

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/11/2022 12:55

I thought the ‘point’ of it was - that no matter what you wear, who you are, what you think of yourself or do, nothing absolutely nothing is as cool as the drink Belvedere. Added bonuses of being a nod to the Christopher Walken video (in a nice way) and a humorous piss take of the whole Hollywood/advertising establishment.
At least it’s a giggle to watch and makes dad dancing kind of cool.

barskits · 13/11/2022 12:55

The only way a pisstake can work is if it is either done superbly well, or appallingly (and deliberately) badly. This is neither, misses the mark, and ain't cool.

Onnabugeisha · 13/11/2022 12:55

I didn’t like it. Why did they dress him like a stereotypical Russian mafioso?
It’s almost like it’s Putin prancing around.

Doingmybest12 · 13/11/2022 12:57

Presumably the comment 'at last' is a reference to bond and drinking martini as part of that image. 'Be yourself' ie it is laughing at bond type images and other images in these kind of adverts. I think it is a good concept but misses the mark I think because too much of a pisstake of campness and is a bit dated ?

blacksax · 13/11/2022 13:00

Do you know what, I think you might be on to something there, @Onnabugeisha

It is beginning to remind me slightly of the Russian skit in Armstrong and Miller...

7Worfs · 13/11/2022 13:01

It’s cringe because it would have been somewhat interesting and funny in 2010. The internet moves fast.

Peach2021 · 13/11/2022 13:03

ROFL definitely - and he's still gorgeous!!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/11/2022 13:08

@barskits I think that the very fact that people are talking about the advert and sharing it on social media means it’s done it’s job very well - promoting the drink! Doesn’t really matter about the content of the advert so long as it achieves the aims of increased brand awareness and ultimately sales.

MrsDoyle351 · 13/11/2022 13:10

😂

it was funny.

I think he’s quite easy on the eye still. Not sure if there’s much to get worked up about here. 🙃

Reminded me of this from 2013
