Hi, looking for anything helpful (even if not reassuring)
my last 2 smears have been HPV+ with the most recent showing cell changes. I predict this is persistent HPV infection that’s been dormant for almost 20yrs. I also have MS, which probably explains why my immune system hasn’t cleared it….
Statistically I’m up there, over 40, smoker (I know I need to stop but I don’t drink as that effects my ms almost instantly).
my latest smear was 6 weeks late as the GP had no appointments, then waited 4 weeks for the letter (arrived a week ago). Recieved a bizarre letter from the local hospital for the colposcopy saying they are aware of the appointment but don’t know when they can offer one???? (I can’t understand this as even when I have my neurologist consultations my mri appointments come through within days even if they are being booked 3 months away). I phoned them and was told I’d be lucky if they see me by January/February but they couldn’t provide an appointment date??? For the last 2 months I’ve had spotting and cramps in between periods, neither the colposcopy department or GP deemed that relevant, yet the info available on verified websites says otherwise. For the last two days I’ve felt constantly bloated, but nothing visible - my logic says it’s wind but despite trying everything position wise I cannot release any and the discomfort is t going). I’ve even asked my GP if I can be referred to another trust with lower wait times and was told no? I thought we could opt for treatment anywhere???? I’m really scared that by the time I’m seen it’s going to be too late. Everything talks about this taking years from infection but there are almost no timescales given from the notice of abnormal cells to full blown cervical cancer. The proposed strikes are making me really upset and anxious, even angry to be honest - is this why they aren’t offering an appointment? My local county has the most planned strike action in the UK. I’m bricking it if I’m honest. If anyone has any experience to share I’d be most grateful x (I can afford to go private for the colposcopy but if anything is found that requires further treatment, I can’t afford that - not that I should though given the amount of NI and tax I have paid! So cross.)
