Dangerous playground equipment

Has anyone got any experience with reporting dangerous playground equipment? There's a piece of older wooden equipment in the playground near me that has about 15 rusty nails sticking upwards centimetres out of it point up where someone's pulled planks off it. It's only about half a foot off the ground. Any child who fell on it or put their hand or foot on a nail would be seriously injured. The playground is open and there are no signs or barriers. I've emailed the council and the parish council yesterday with photos but not heard back. I'm not sure what else I can do. It feels like there should be someone who steps in when there's dangerous equipment in an area that's supposed to be safe for children. I'm genuinely worried about it as it's not obvious from a distance and I hate to think of a little toddler toddling up to this with their mum a little too far behind.

Can you put something over it and then bind it with gorilla tape as a temporary measure?

I kept reporting emerging wire in a field to my Council and was ignored until I said I had actually tripped over and then of course they sent someone round to snip off all the bits that were coming through the ground!

Is the playground definitely the responsibility of the Council? (Not all are) If it is, it could be as simple as they have a lot of emails to work through and haven’t yet opened yours. Or maybe they have read it and are working on it but haven’t yet replied to you.
Give them a ring today to speed it up.

Call them. I use the 'Love Clean Street' app for this too but guess they might not have that everywhere.
I find it good to say all the terrible things that could happen 'oh it's just the right height for a child to fall and injure their eye' etc. helps to focus their minds on how urgent it is.

Will only be made safe in the short term, not totally fixed.

Playgrounds near us have a 24 hour number you can call to report issues, I assume there wasn’t a sign on the gate with a number? Sounds dreadful.

Do what you can with tape to make it less off a hazard

Pester the Parish Council endlessly by ohone / popping in if they have an office, it is probably their responsibility.
