how do you make life easier

any life hacks to make life easier with a 7 (nearly 8) yr old and a nearly 2 yr old?
mainly for school mornings etc.

I forgot dc's school shoes today as I drop them off at GP's house on my way to work, DP had to leave work (builder) to go and get them and then take DC 7 to school. and now I'm sat at work wondering how I can not forget such little things hahaha!

please help

Get as much ready the night before. Get dc involved the night before.

Take away as many unnecessary changes and add ons as possible. Send them in their school shoes. Why complicate life?

how did you forget their shoes? where they not wearing them? if not, you should make the children go to GP in full uniform.

get school bags etc ready the night before. Put coats, bags, shoes by the door, so they are all together.

keep some spare items at GPs house eg a tie, jumper, shirt (can use old uniform) for emergencies.

Does the 2 yr old stay at GPs house during the day?? What do you need to drop off for them?

Definitely work on getting as much done the night before that you can. Make sure everything has a home and it gets put back there so that you can find it easily.

A brilliant suggestion I read on here was to use music in the morning. So one song to get clothes on. Another song to brush teeth etc. Great if you have DC who dawdle.

I give them breakfast at home then they go to GP's in pj's to get ready and they take DC7 to school and have youngest all day.

I agree with others about getting as much ready the night before. Uniforms clothes, cereal bowls, cereals, book bags, water bottles packed lunch, hats gloves, coats etc get everything out and ready to go including your own stuff.

Put things you wouldn’t normally take to school but new them in certain days, in a bag slap bang in front of your front door at bedtime so you can’t leave the house without them?

Have a journal/planner or wall chart/list that you can add to and tick off?

purpledagger · 11/11/2022 10:17

could you just drop a weeks uniform to Gps at the start of the week, so it's always there. DC can get changed back into non uniform/trainers after school.

I never forgot when i was wondering how to cope with 2 my sister telling me NEVER to come downstairs undressed and i have always done this - kids as well. Take them to GPs already fully dressed - if they drop breakfast down themselves after so be it - a quick wipe with a cloth will suffice.

Skala123 · 11/11/2022 10:27

The day I refused to allow my kids breakfast until they were dressed for school was the day mornings got easier! Less for GPs to do as well. No chance of forgetting stuff then. School bags packed the night before. If school lunch is an option and they don't currently have it then switch to that too

Sunflowerseedsx · 11/11/2022 10:42

he has school lunches most days and packed the others which i do have a rota for (yay)
and i tend to pack the night before. its just the odd night where i just want to sit down after doing all the other faff and then i leave it to the morning that i forget things.

i think im going to get him another jumper to just leave at my parents and he has enough tshirts/trousers to do the same

thanks guys i just feel like im missing something here

After your update I’d write a list and pop it on tvs fridge plus have a tub to put all the loose items in eg school shoes and bag, coat and hat
Taking all uniform to GPs house on Monday is also a great idea as that’s one less thing to remember

Skala123 · 11/11/2022 11:04

My other hack is to set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than you think you need. Has made such a difference to my mornings. Gives me time to wake up properly, get showered and make a coffee before the kids get up

MarshaBradyo · 11/11/2022 11:10

Alarms and reminders every day

Set new ones up as soon as emails come in

Although I did stuff up as double booked party and a fair which I have to know withdraw from - I try to avoid doing that so feel bad for not noticing

Sunflowerseedsx · 11/11/2022 11:21

I've recently started with the reminders and that's helping.

think i definitely need to get up earlier than the kids, my OH is up from around 6 so i should probably get up with him. i'm lazy in the morning and tend to lie around until i REALLY need to get up which is my own fault and i need to stop lol
