Touching door handles with sleeve of top

Does anyone else do this? I only do it in public, I don’t do it in my own home though. The thought of touching door handles in public grosses me.

Only in public toilets to be honest. I sometimes use toilet roll rather than my sleeve.

I use toilet roll in public toilets. I was in one in London recently and there were little posts at the bottom of the doors so you could operate them with your foot, which was great.

Harrysnippleno3 · 11/11/2022 00:37

No because then you just have germs on your top.

MarmiteCoriander · 11/11/2022 00:38

Touching it with your sleeve top- that you have to carry around un cleaned the entire day??? NO!!!

If bacterial/viruses are your concern- I'd use a tissue or toilet roll to touch the door! Not my own clothing 😕

Linnet · 11/11/2022 00:42

I do this at work if I use the public toilets or out and about at public toilets. Sometimes I’ll use a paper hand towel but other times I use my sleeve. I have been in there and heard people leave without washing there hands 🤢

BigCheeseSandwich · 11/11/2022 00:59

No. That takes germ paranoia to a whole new level. Just wash your hands regularly (before eating, after toileting) and there is no need for such measures.

Thatskindafun · 11/11/2022 01:03

No because now it’s on your top
you can wash or sanitise your hands easily
you can’t wash your clothes as easily

ScarierThanBoo · 11/11/2022 01:10

I use my elbow if there's no tissue around and its not just toilet doors if I can help it. People are disgusting and have poor hygiene habits.

CloudybutMild · 11/11/2022 01:12

No, that seems a bit of a strange thing to do. What’s the reasoning behind it? I’m not aware of people becoming unwell from using door handles normally.

SouperNoodle · 11/11/2022 01:16

I do it!

MadelineUsher · 11/11/2022 01:21

I do it. I'll use my sleeve or if it's winter the end of a winter scarf. I know that I won't accidentally put my sleeve or my scarf in my eye, or touch my face with it. It makes me feel calmer. People are lousy handwashers and many taps require hand turning and then to my mind are covered in germs and worse. Seeing how many people don't wash their hands makes me even more inclined to do it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/11/2022 01:23

I did it during covid. Haven't caught it yet. CLEARLY this means it works.

Not.

Marmitemother · 11/11/2022 01:26

I've always done it or used a paper towel/ tissue on exiting public toilets after washing my own hands. Also use elbows to push open doors. Even more so since Covid.

MadelineUsher · 11/11/2022 01:27

I saw a documentary about the transmission of colds and flu years ago and the expert warned against door handles and poles and stop buttons on trains/public transport, as the viruses could live for some surprising amount of time on these, and then you touch your mouth, your nose, or your eye. It stuck in my mind as I get horrific asthma exacerbations from even a mild cold, so go out of my way to avoid getting them. Then, of course, Covid...

AndyWarholsPiehole · 11/11/2022 01:28

It's disgusting to use your sleeve (your sleeve might go near/ touch your face during the day).
I use the bottom of my top or coat.

MadelineUsher · 11/11/2022 01:31

The important thing is to keep whatever away from the mucous membranes. My sleeves are obedient and stay well away!

PinkButtercups · 11/11/2022 01:35

I tend to use my foot or elbow where I can. I don't use my sleeve though if I have to use my hand I will then wash it.

Your hands can be as clean as you like, those of the last person to touch the toilet door handle might not.

There's a reason why modern public toilets ( think shopping centres) don't have doors other than for the cubicles, but a series of walls to give privacy and ensure after you've washed your hands, you don't have to touch anything on the way out.

This… I just use hand sanitizer after touching it

Hand sanitiser doesn't remove micro shit particles from your hands.

So you open the door with a paper towel, which you now have in your hand, so what happens next?

I can’t see what it’s supposed to achieve, people don’t get sick from opening doors normally, with their hands.

ttcchapter1 · 11/11/2022 01:42

No because i can wash/sanitise my hands throughout the day but not my clothes?!

I hope you don's use your foot where other people put their hands? Otherwise you're actually causing the issue. Yuk.
