How to thank fire officers and paramedics

Not quite three weeks ago, we had a serious fire in our kitchen caused by a lightning strike on cables outside. All pretty grim - our poor old dog died and our house is uninhabitable for at least six months, but we’re mainly just grateful to be alive.

I don’t really want to dwell on that in this thread, but I did want to ask for suggestions for thank you presents to give the wonderful, heroic fire officers and the brilliant paramedics and staff at A&E. Chocolates or biscuits seems a bit dull, but I can’t think of anything else! Any ideas?

My DH is a paramedic. Chocolate and biscuits would go down very well! Also write to the Trust with positive feedback. He has occasionally had letters telling him that his actions definitely saved a life and it gives him a much needed boost

Cupcakes usually go down well
(P.S so sorry to hear about your dog ❤) x

Most supermarkets are selling tubs of chocolates and sweets now.

My DH is a fire fighter - biscuits and a nice card will be very much appreciated at the fire station🙂 You could also write to the chief fire officer of your fire service so the crew might get some recognition from 'higher ups'.

Oh just read @Bobbins2022 post - snap!

OhItsSpicyy · 10/11/2022 18:45

So sorry. My DP is a firefighter and the crews fave snack is a big box of Krispy Kremes.

jamontoastaddict · 10/11/2022 18:46

Sorry about your dog Flowers

How very traumatic for you op.

My sister had a very traumatic car crash and was cut out by the fire service and taken by the ambulance crew. She was in hospital for three months but made an almost full recovery.

Could never thank them. Sent some chocs but seemed so weird.

Shockhorror22 · 10/11/2022 18:49

Very good suggestions to write to higher ups. It looks like chocs and biscuits are the answer - I wouldn’t inflict my baking on anyone!

jamontoastaddict - your poor sister! I know what you mean about it seeming weird.

So sorry to hear about your house and dog Flowers.

My DP is a firefighter and they very rarely get sent anything so I'm sure chocs etc would go down really well. Especially donuts.
During the pandemic when the hospitals etc were inundated with gifts, all their station got sent was a delivery of out of date bread that the food bank turned down 😂😂.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/11/2022 19:02

Always food! Plus copying in superiors.

Seasider2017 · 10/11/2022 19:06

That’s very nice of you to think if that , a but if appreciation 👍
I don’t think people realise how much fire fighters put their own lives at risks when coming out to fires.
Asda do large boxes if doughnuts for a few quid
The Xmas tins are on offer @ £4

Shockhorror22 · 10/11/2022 19:07

PissedOffNeighbour22 - stale bread! What were they thinking?

And thanks everyone for the good wishes.

Our county fire service has a Facebook page, I thanked them on that when my mum had a house fire, I was happy to thank them in a public way. She had to stay at a friend's house a couple of roads away, on the night of the fire and they insisted on walking her there and carrying her hastily assembled overnight bag.

But yeah send some food too.

bakewellbride · 10/11/2022 19:32

My dh is a paramedic. He loves biscuits and definitely email the trust with a good review as that'll go in the paramedic's career development portfolio.
