Anyone else who works from home. Hybrid Enjoys it. Works well. But considering returning to the office simply because of rising energy prices 🤔

I pay £22 a day to travel to work so not worth it for me but can see why people would if work close.

Eileen101 · 10/11/2022 12:21

Not worth it for me - £12 per day on the train to get into the office. I'll stay at home in my oodie and fluffy slippers and not lose the hour commute each way.

Suzi888 · 10/11/2022 12:21

Wouldn’t you spend more on travelling to work? Possibly buying a lunch?

I have a heated throw, so no. My dog has a medical problem so I can’t have the heating on without opening a door or windows for him anyway.

£10ish a day petrol plus losing 2 hours of my day and over an hour's sleep to the commute, or sitting at home with fluffy socks and a blanket, no contest.

AriettyHomily · 10/11/2022 12:30

No, £15 a day travel, two hours of my time, lunch, coffee (I know they're not essential!). We are lucky enough to be on a good fix at the moment. Fucked when our mortgage fox runs out though.

Beachbabe1 · 10/11/2022 12:32

No way. Love wfh! Blanket, scarf, fingerless gloves and lots of tea!

daisybrown37 · 10/11/2022 12:34

No. Work are trying to reduce their costs as well (small business). It is not worth the hassle and extra cost.

Proamble · 10/11/2022 12:42

Unless I cycle to work, it will still cost £7.70 a day for travel. It’s not worth the disruption and commute. Despite having an old house, I don’t have to put the heating on during the day yet.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/11/2022 13:31

Nope. I already do 3 days in freezing air conditioning so not going to do anymore.

mackthepony · 10/11/2022 13:34

Cost me around £20 to go to the office last week. Two hours commute in total. Train, food, a coffee. Now if I was going in daily it'd be cheaper than than but for me WFH is the way forward.

TheFlis12345 · 10/11/2022 13:39

Nope, much prefer to be at home and put an extra layer on than to spend £10 and an hour each way travelling to a freezing office that inexplicably still has the air con on!!

MissAmbrosia · 10/11/2022 13:42

There's been an announcement that work are switching off the heating on half the floors! And the others will be at 19 degrees. I will stay home as much as possible as I hate the commute.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 10/11/2022 13:42

Nope - my partner had to do a day in the office a few weeks ago and it was a nightmare. Longer childcare hours required being the main thing, plus the fact he got caught in traffic prolonged it even more! That's not including travel costs which for a 3 hour round trip in the end was about £20, plus lunch which he got at work as they'd arranged a lunch meeting. We don't have the heating on during the day anyway, and the cost of toilets flushing/oven being on for lunch etc is negligible in comparison to the costs of getting to the office. He also didn't get to spend as much time with our children, and he got home later than expected so dinner was a (more pricey than usual) ready meal that could be bunged in the oven at short notice rather than a more economical home cooked meal

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 10/11/2022 13:44

WFH has destroyed my mental health so if we still had and office, I’d be in it 😭.

kingtamponthefurred · 10/11/2022 14:04

Nope. I love working at home and am never going back to an office.

Whendovescry03 · 10/11/2022 14:08

I personally work in the office but colleagues who do hybrid have been talking about coming into the office more as it's so warm in there. I have to keep swinging the windows open to cool it down! Those colleagues all live fairly nearby though so their commute is low cost.

dragonbreaths · 10/11/2022 14:28

no. absolutely love working from home. have wood burner stove so snuggled up next to it with laptop

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 10/11/2022 14:29

I'd be far more in petrol plus 6 hours commuting over the week so wouldn't make sense for me

latetothefisting · 10/11/2022 14:33

Petrol would cost me at least forty quid a week to the office and I haven't yet turned my heating on at home (just hasn't been very cold and hsbe been fine with a hoodie and hot water bottle) so definitely not for me!

Ontobetterthings · 10/11/2022 14:38

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 10/11/2022 13:44

I had to go in the office all last week. I normally wfh and go in occasionally . Yes it was a hassle going in but it surprised me how isolated I had been wfh. I was chatting with colleagues all week. Getting out of the house, collaborating over projects was loads easier. Did make me think I will never do fully remote working now. Hybrid is best. I do think an office is needed.

1001Daffodils · 10/11/2022 14:39

I don't turn on the heating unless my children are here so it's only electricity I use and the trade off vs associated costs with commuting - it's an easy decision to stay at home unless needed in the office.

And frankly, the office is sodding freezing anyway!

OatFox · 10/11/2022 14:39

I love working from home. The amount I spend on energy is offset by the amount of productivity I have, no cost to commute and no lunches/coffees etc.

Kite22 · 10/11/2022 21:21

No, but I've worked from home for years before covid, and I have very rarely put the heating on. When I need to, I have a little heater under my desk which warms the room in no time.
I suspect I would spend a lot more in petrol.
If you factor in the value of my time, there is no way it could be considered worth it.
I would also pay out money for the gain in flexibility that wfh brings.
