Primary school one day off.

Hello all!
I'm just wanting advice please.
Son is in reception year at primary school. I have requested one day off as a holiday (thought I'd do the right thing and be honest rather than pretending he's ill) which has been rejected. I was expecting this, but as its for his dad's birthday, a big birthday, I thought the school wouldn't mind.

Have I got to send son in? I've never been in this situation before and don't plan on making this a habit.

Thanks all!

You keep saying a big birthday- that’s still not a reason to keep a child off school. Sorry for any hard time, and of course one day won’t cause a problem for you child’s education but still it’s not a good enough reason.
also once your child is enrolled in school they are required to attend, 4 or 5.

No no I understand a big birthday isn't a reason, I just meant as in I wouldn't and will not keep him off for just any birthday. This is the first and last time that he will have a day off for a birthday. I aim for his attendance to be 100%.

Again thank you all so much for your advice and guidance. First time parent to a child in primary school so unsure of best pracrice and protocols etc!

Ignore it , the school has no right to refuse, until he is 5 you can keep him off however long you please without them being able to take any kind of action. Remind them of this, reception is the warm up year before he starts his education journey so dont feel guilty about it. Make memories with your baby

False! The child is enrolled- if you think a September born baby has to be in school more than a July born baby you are wrong. Once enrolled they are enrolled!

Our kids aunt and uncle (DH’s sister) are getting married out of the UK in January and we tried to request authorised absence for 3 days to attend, which was denied. Seems to be that every school has their own interpretation of what an exceptional circumstance is.

The guidance gives allowance for parents or siblings weddings, not aunts and uncles. My children couldn’t attend their aunts wedding as it was mid week in term time - neither could I for the same reason.
