Apparently I'd be a terrible TV/Film Critic

I've just finished watching 'The Bear' on Disney+ and did my usual habit of reading up on the show. It was 'critically acclaimed' with great ratings of 8/10+ from everywhere.

I thought it was shite. I dragged myself through the 8 episodes because I like Jeremy Allen White and thought it might pick up halfway through. If you haven't seen it, it did not.

Most of my favourite shows/movies have awful ratings on RT/Metacritic etc. It always seems to happen and I'm left feeling like I a) have no taste and b) am somehow missing some stroke of genius that went completely over my head and c) must like pretty lowbrow stuff ... anyone else? Grin

You have different preferences to others, a critic should be able to take into account different views

Both you and I would not be good critics for the ‘average’ population

Yes! My favourite films all have about 2/10 on rotten tomatoes 🤣

If it's any consolation, I started watching this but switched off after a couple of episodes. Couldn't get into it at all and was surprised to read it was supposed to be a comedy.

I also didn't reckon much to The Sopranos and Breaking Bad either which are always cited in those lists of greatest shows of all times 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same re the Sopranos and Breaking Bad. I persevered through both right to the end but still didn't quite get why they have this weird legendary status!

I've also noticed it with ratings for a particular season of a show. Some of my favourite seasons have the lowest ratings Grin

Most of my male friends consider themselves critics/buffs and it does get tedious. I get mansplained at about why the latest Marvel series is shite and I'm sat there like, oh, I actually liked that one for once...
