What to do with leftover pastry

I've got a large ball of it-from making blackberry/pear/apple pies. I made far too much because I couldn't get the consistency right and kept adding more butter, more flour, then more butter.. until it was okay!

It's very sweet, short pastry so nothing savoury.

WWYD? All I can think of is jam tarts but they're rather boring aren't they?
I have a lot of xmas cake ingredients in-perhaps could do something with that....

I roll it out, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon, roll into a spiral and cut into bit sized pieces. Delicious!

Mince pies. Freeze it until your ready to use it. Make your own mincemeat - well worth it and not as sweet as the bought stuff.

Mince pies, Bakewell tarts, butterscotch tart (super easy and totally addictive)

Jam tarts disappear at speed in my house so are always my choice for leftover pastry. Come to think of it I might just make a whole batch of jam tarts next time lol.

Roll it out and sprinkle with mixed dried fruit and sugar. Fold it over and roll again. You’re after the sugar and dried fruit being fully embedded in the pastry. You can then cut it into triangles place it on a baking tray and cook at 180c for about 12 minutes. It’s lovely with butter spread on it.

Good idea-I have all the ingredients for those in. I don't like them myself but family will love them :)

That sounds really good too!

Love all these ideas! I am absolutely shattered and don't think my brain's working, I honestly couldn't think beyond jam tarts! Butterscotch tart sounds great too

Lemon Meringue Pie, Bakewell tart, Gipsy Tart

Jam tarts are never boring. I always start to try to eat them far too soon after they come out of the oven.

GerardWay123 · 08/11/2022 22:37

Wrap in cling film, put in the fridge ready to use then let the other household members move it into the salad draw. Nice and wet.

ZooTropia · 08/11/2022 22:41

For savoury, I cut into squares and put onion chutney from Tesco on each and top with a little cheddar! Yum!
Cook for 10 minutes

AdoraBell · 08/11/2022 22:43

I second DeLurkingAJ’s idea.

BabyYodasGotMyTeacher · 08/11/2022 22:45

Treacle treat - dead easy if you've got some bread/cornflakes and golden syrup!

BabyYodasGotMyTeacher · 08/11/2022 22:46

Treacle tart even

winteryblues · 08/11/2022 23:01

Thank you so much for all the ideas!
