My DD will be three in a few months... until now when she's screaming upset, she's mostly just been screaming. For the last few weeks, she's started actually saying what she's upset about during her screaming.

For example when she hurts herself she'll say ' I want my mummy ' ' I bumped my knee ' whilst crying/ screaming.

When she's upset in her room at bed time, she used to just scream. But now she scream / cries ' I want my mummy ' ' where's my mummy '...

I'm heartbroken. My poor girly ! It's so sad on another level to hear her say it. Sad

Did anyone else find this really sad ? Sometimes I can't help but cry. I hide it, but it breaks me.

It’ll soon change to “mummy mummy! I need you it’s an emergency !”

You find them in the bathroom saying, “can you wipe my bum!’

I was the exact same with my first DD and I'll definitely be the same when my 2nd starts talking. It's so heartbreaking

A few years and they want nothing to do with you 😉

Yeah I find it kind of heart breaking as well. Not in the sense that it is more concerning than screaming without words or that you'd wish they didn't have words but that "mummy" really tugs at your heart strings. Maybe it makes it more personal. I'm not sure. And it's even worse when there's nothing you can do about like when you are leaving them at nursery.

In this thread - people who are totally puzzled as to why it's sadder to hear a child verbalise their reasons for being sad

Wait until she’s 16 and ignoring you.

Then you’ll be really crying.

🤣

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2022 22:34

But surely you knew that her screaming meant "I want my mummy!" without her actually verbalising it?

Jesus the bizarre puzzlement on this thread.I think posters are being deliberately awkward.
I get you op.

used to get me. And I have 4.

yes I know that just screaming for whatever reason means that they need you/comfort it’s bloody obvious!!

to hear it in words just tugs at the heart even more.

I couldn't agree more. Some kind of weird competitive shit - but I am not sure why you would want to be the best at a lack of maternal feelings and empathy.
