Quick help needed, what's the fastest way to soften butter to make a cake?

I've suddenly developed a need for cake.. Grin Only my butter is rock solid. I can't wait all evening for it to soften. It likely wouldn't anyway because my heating isn't on. Will it be enough if I grate it? I know microwaving isn't any good. Those who give tips can have a slice when it's ready... Grin

Cut up small, and 7 seconds in the old microwave. Not sure on the new one.

I once saw a tip on TV (I think hairy bikers) where he put the butter in his armpit to soften it … 🤣

I have now eaten the cake... I feel so much better.. 😁

Put it on a radiator.

If you read the opening post, I have no heating!

Was it good? What sort?

Glad it hit the spot.
What did you do to soften the butter in the end?

BarbaraofSeville · 08/11/2022 21:03

Next time, just make brownies.

Melt your butter in the microwave and none of that tedious creaming stage.

My best banana cake recipe involves melting the butter in a pan with the sugar.
