Have you ever met someone with Munchausen?

I was a HCA and working on shift few years ago. I've been a HCA at various Trusts

A woman there was self inducing labour with tablets, and then claiming she was losing her baby. Which she was, but it was fabricated

I saw her once years back and then again when she was found out. When she was found out, she'd terminated over 4 pregnancies this way.

On the last go, she didn't remove all the tablet in (vaginal tablets), and was caught. Hospital could never prove properly what she done, and psychiatrist who reviewed said she was okay to leave

Don't think she's ever been here since but is well known

I've never met anyone else like it. Nor do I know any family or friends with this condition. Do you?

@Chloefairydust she was flagged up to mental health team but didn't engaged. Not a lot they can do

To answer your question though, misoprostol is available by post and has been for a while. I could call up BPAS and say I'm 8 weeks pregnant, I know my last period date. They send you pills by post. And before that you could take it home from clinic. So I guess she was using that

It's rare. Vanishingly rare. Pills by post is a fantastic thing for so many women

What a horrible post.

Well OP wants an interesting discussion about Munchausen's apparently but as they admit, it is "vanishingly rare" so not sure what the point of the post is apart from nasty gossip- and appears to have gone of track with their last post that contains furthe details about the client. hmmm

I really hope no one can identify you or the patient OP. If it's that rare are you sure it's as anonymous as you think? What if it gets picked up by the daily fail?

MunchUsen’s I s fascinating and not a disease - the really odd thing about it is lack of empathy for the victims and the repeated - lifelong - offending.

Supersimkin2 · 07/11/2022 19:11

Of course it’s not identifying. I love MN.

Supersimkin2 · 07/11/2022 19:14

MH don’t engage cos they don’t think they’re doing anything wrong - the police call if they’re hurting someone else

I agree, I don’t see any identifying breeches in confidentiality. E.g no names, doesn’t mention the place poster works ect…

And maybe we should be talking more openly about mental health issues instead of brushing it under the rug and pretending it’s not an issue in society. I think it’s outrageous that there is no mental health support for this woman to be honest. This is the real issue I see here.

Why has this post got some people so worked up?

iamsandycheeks · 07/11/2022 19:53

I haven't revealed any identifying info about the patient at all. There will be others like her. And one poster even said I could be identifying myself Confused do you know how many HCA there are that work bank shifts? For goodness sakes

The is Mumsnet chat where all kinds of people post about hoovers and next doors cat shitting in their garden. Why do t you look for a medical board where everyone works in the same field as you and you can have a proper discussion about it?
