Toddler boy haircut - super straight hair

We had some nursery photos done of our boy and his hair is a shambles.
He has a hair appointment on Wednesday before we have our Xmas family photos taken next week but I really struggle to know what to do with his hair.
As you can see it is super straight and if it was cut short it would just stick up

I think maybe we should have been putting it into a parting? I know he won't like that now he is a strong willed wee boy.

How should we style this?!

Depends if you want to keep the fringe but my sons hair is the same and I do a number 6 all over. He is 12 though so older. It doesn't stick up and it doesn't looked shaved.

I do quite like a fringe but I feel maybe it should be getting swept over from a parting?

There’s a bit of a ‘bowl’ cut look going on there. I’m no stylist but I would ask for a good trim and tidy up. Not much else you could do really.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/12/2022 14:44

He had his tidy up. It needs done again. Grows so fast!

With a parting you could end up in Nick Eardley territory. Which is fabulous on a political correspondent.

I think your DS looks cute as he is, it just needs to be a bit shorter.

It looks fine to me. Very similar to my son's. His is super straight too.

I hate anything too short so I do a No.8 with the clippers all over but run it a bit away from the scalp over the top so it stays a bit longer.

Your photos do look absolutely fine to me though. Just normal little boy hair.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/12/2022 15:12

Ok thank you both. Yes I think you are right it is fairly normal maybe just slightly too long. We got Xmas photos done and there's to bits that stick up making him look like an owl. Lol.

I love it when DS gets sticky up bits. I think it looks really cute. I might be weird though! 😄

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/12/2022 15:16

Well I do think it's cute but I worry other folk think he's a shambles!

OK, it is a little sticky outy but still.wothin acceptable parameters!

TinFoilHatty · 07/12/2022 15:20

oh right, one of mine had hair like this and we found it sat best in a Meet Me At McDonalds style (longer on top, short back and sides but not permed, lol)

ICanHideButICantRun · 07/12/2022 15:21

He's really cute! Who is cutting his hair? My son's hair was similar and I used to take him to my hairdresser - she did a much better job than the barber.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/12/2022 15:21

Yes just!!

I actually think the issue is that the side bits are too short, not too long, so they are sticking out instead of lying flat.

I cut my toddler DS’s hair myself after watching a few YouTube videos. I use clippers for the back and sides and scissors for the top. The tricky bit is the blending of the top and the sides, which looks like where your DS is having an issue.

Don’t want to be overly harsh (and I’m sure your DS is very cute regardless!) but I think it may be worth trying a different hairdresser.

I also comb my DS hair when it’s wet, in the direction I want it to go in, and try to make sure it’s dry before he sleeps on it.

We've tried 3 and it's been the same with all of them!
I know what you mean about it being too short so it sticks up. I don't know how those bits could be so long they lay flat then the bits further down will be long touching his shoulders. Or if they are shorter then we get the sort of bowl cut look.
It's tricky

Also we don't brush it because he has a bloody meltdown so I can't brush it to a parting.

Maybe we need some products!
