Perimenopause?

I’m 39 (my mum was around 40 when she started)

I know I don’t ovulate each month. I’ve been pregnant with twins multiple times (resulting in one set born). It’s like every so often my body does a “super ovulation” it’s very noticeable and I get a heavy feeling for days in that region. But some months I feel nothing at all. There’s zero symptoms.

im still fairly regular. 28 days or so. Periods are very very heavy.

my main difference lately is that on day 25 or so I feel very down, very weepy, everything makes me angry and sad. I feel no motivation at work. I go a little crazy quite honestly.

now I’m day 27 and I feel awesome. Like I could take on the world and accomplish anything. I feel energetic and just bloody great 🤣 my period is due In Next 24h or so.

That swing of emotions in just a few days is hard work and new. Is this a perimenopause thing?

can a doctor tell me if I am? Is there any test I can take?

I have real brain fog- always have but it’s a lot worse these days. I’ve read that people have got this since having covid, but also that it can be a sign of peri menopause. My cycle is completely regular now - never was in my 20s/30s and is sometimes short. This is also a sign.

A lady at work who is 50 said my brain fog could be peri menopause and I should go to the doctors for a blood test so I think this is something you can do. It seemed like she knew what she was talking about!

This doctor posts on Instagram quite a bit about menopause which can be useful to read,

Good luck!

Not necessarily. My PMT symptoms have varied hugely over the years.

And whilst some women do go into perimenopause earlier, some of us didn't until they were over 50...

That said, do have a chat with your GP.

I am 49 and definitely now in peri but from about your age I started getting similar symptoms. I too have the ovulation thing. Will have nothing some months then when I do ovulate, I know about it, I get pain and discomfort for several days. My periods were also super heavy. My gastroenterologist said that as I wasn’t ovulating every month that allowed the uterus lining to build up thus causing the heavy bleeding. I also developed polyps which I kept having removed but they kept growing back so I ended up having an ablation this year as I was getting so anaemic.
Have you seen a gynaecologist to check the uterus lining? Don’t put up with the heavy bleeding, it’s draining and there are lots of options to help.
