I moved into a new build 5 months ago . I had the gas uncapped for the gas hob. But I (think) I was meant to get the boiler uncapped? Could that be the case? . As I (think) I have been running the hot water of the emersion heater. Is this an emersion heater? ( see pic)

Would be greatful for some advice as I really can't afford to call somone out. Unless I have no choice

Looks like it could be an immersion heater. Mine was smaller and fatter. Where is the gas boiler? Is it a condensing boiler? Do you have gas central heating as is that working? If so your boiler is working. Some boilers have a water tanks but usually older ones.

Why don't you Google the name in the side of the tank and see what it comes up with.

Never heard of uncapping a
Boiler. Just though that was for ovens so you could chose the type of fuel?

Immersion heaters are crazy expensive though I'm sure you are aware.

I'm not sure about the heating I have never put it on. It's a standard gas boiler I googled the make it does not tell me much. I could be confused about the cap thing.

All tanks will have an immersion heater - they're usually operated by a switch (like a plug socket) and it's usually pretty obvious if it's on or off. If your boiler is working as normal then it'll be the gas that's heating the water. If you're not sure have you got a friend who cold take a look? If you're in a new build you're probably on an estate - just ask your neighbour?!

Is it a brand new house, as in you bought it from the house builder? If so ask them to come round and tell you what you need to know. You won't have to pay them. Otherwise ask a neighbour. There's probably a Facebook group for your area where you could ask someone to take a look if you don't feel comfortable knocking on someone's door.

Some new build houses have a water tank; ours does. I think it depends on the size of the house as to whether there's one or not (though things may have changed in the few years since we bought it) as smaller houses nearby don't. Doesn't mean you're running it off the immersion. See if you can find a switch for it somewhere, or check the manual that the house builder should have given you.

I think your right. I think I have the emersion heater on. The boiler does not kick in when I put the hot water on. Explains why my gas has only been around 1.50 or less a week as well.

I will look at the boiler again to double check I'm not missing anything silly. If can't find anything I will call someone
