Waistline after kids

I've just been diagnosed pre diabetic. I'm overweight but not hugely, but my waist measurement is well above the 31.5 inches that apparently puts women at greater risk of diabetes. I've been told I need to get it down.

I had gestational diabetes and polyhydramnios during my last pregnancy. I was absolutely huge by the end and my belly has never gone back to how it was completely, even when I've been a healthier weight. That's not to say I don't need to lose a lot of weight. But surely waistline isn't a reliable indicator of anything after pregnancy? Or am I deluded?

Do you mean because of separated stomach muscles and lose skin around your waist?

I thought it was waist divided by height rather than a generic measurement.

or the other way round.

Apparently all women with a waist measurement above 30.5 inches are at greater risk of diabetes. www.diabetes.org.uk/preventing-type-2-diabetes/waist-measurement

Yes I mean muscle separation. I don't think I've ever managed to get close enough to my pre pregnancy weight for loose skin, but I do have diasasis recti.

That doesn't really make sense though as a 5ft 11 woman with a 30.5" waist would be much slimmer than someone with the same waist at 5ft 1.

Yes, this is a thing.

Last time I had an over 50s health check at my GP surgery, they measured my waist and the nurse said that height to waist measurement ratio is increasingly being recognised an a factor in conditions like diabetes.

TBF, women's bodies after babies are different to women's bodies pre-pregnancy and to men's, but the general gist that you should aim for your waist measurement to be less than half your height still stands.
