Do you deal with those tiny chairs!
I have bad knees so can be on them too long at all so then I sit on the carpet and I get pins an needles after a while đŸ™ˆ

how do people who’ve been doing this a long time deal with having no adult chair all day ?

I may just have to stretch my legs out every so often

You are definitely allowed a comfortable chair to sit on. Just ask for one or take one from somewhere else.

You're a grown up, nobody is going to tell you off for asking for a chair. What does the class teacher sit on for whole class teaching?

titbumwillypoo · 06/11/2022 18:23

I tend to kneel on the floor due to space between the desks and moving around the classroom so much. A chair would be a hassle.

DarkKarmaIlama · 06/11/2022 18:24

Come and join us in secondary đŸ˜‰. The chairs are bigger and they’re all oversized toddlers so you’ll be more than experienced.

LondonQueen · 06/11/2022 18:27

Get yourself a chair if they won't provide you with one, you will screw your knees up sitting on the kids chairs! Both me and my TA have a adult computer style chair each.

I did a day in EYFS recently in supply where there were no chairs at all. Not even in the role play kitchen. Not a single chair.

It’s a new thing apparently.

So that’s something to look forward to. đŸ™„

I wandered around the school till I found a spare chair and then took it down to P1.

I have problems with my hip (cos I'm old) and need to sit in a proper chair.

pallidbat · 06/11/2022 18:42

I don't get time to sit down for any length of time that would be uncomfortable tbh. I am a 1:1 for a child with behavioural needs though.

PriamFarrl · 06/11/2022 18:42

The thing is with EYFS is that you will spend the day in 100 different spots. Outside, in the sand pit, in the water tray, in the book corner, in the role play area, on the carpet etc. You can have a nice chair but you can’t lug it around the setting all day.

BeautifulDragon · 06/11/2022 18:50

Yes, but you still need a chair for carpet time and working with small groups.

You also need adult chairs to offer to parents.

How ridiculous

I told my teacher I was getting a bigger chair for health and safety reasons and went and got one from the dinner hall. Just be assertive. You're work is not allowed to make you physically uncomfortable.

Exactly this. But I do hope you know (as a TA) that you’ve you’ve used the wrong ‘your’.
if you’re not sure, just go on bbc bitesize and revise it please.

We did a ridiculous parents evening in nursery recently where the dining hall (from where we usually steal adult sized chairs) was locked and we had to offer parents the choice of our one solitary teacher chair, us just standing in the classroom, sitting on desks or joining us on the quiet corner beanbags.
Two sets of parents took us up on the beanbags, one mum just sat on the wall of the play castle.

I’ve had three children go through Early years and primary and I don’t think I was ever offered a chair bigger than the ones my child would have sat on all day. Dh (6ft2 and 15stone) often worried he was going to collapse them, but never did.
I can’t imagine there is much time for sitting on a chair in eyfs and I’m guessing if you ask you will be told there is no budget but the times that you are on a chair, you should at least be on the right size chair and comfortable.

No fucking chance. One over sized toddler KS4 child is enough thanks. If I go back it's to the littlies in early years.
