What shall we have for dinner on Thursday?

Ok wise women of MN - I'm doing our meal plan for the week. So far it looks like this:

Mon: Mexican fish and rice
Tues: Korean style chicken
Wed: Beef stroganoff pasta bake
Thurs:
Fri: Chicken chilli chowder
Sat: Bbq ribs and wedges
Sun: roast

We're drawing a blank for Thursday. Two adults and two teens. No mad dislikes (DS: - salmon, tomatoes and Dd: onion mushroom and tomato).

Any ideas??

Thank you!

From our meal plan this week;

  • broccoli quiche with new potatos and green salad (bought quiche)
  • cream of vegetable soup (homemade) with fresh white bread rolls, butter and ham
  • Breakfast for dinner- this week is scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on bagels.
We are a meat heavy household as well but those are our 'lighter' meals (although not particularly light really)

However the dc are big meat eaters and not very veggie friendly.

Tell them to get over it. Meat is expensive and really not necessary every day!

Pasta pesto

That meal plan looks expensive and labour intensive
that would be spread over at least a fortnight with odd evenings of pasta based meals and oven chips and something type meals
also meals using up leftovers

Toad in the hole

Make double quantities one night and have the same again??

Roast chicken and use the rest of the chicken the following night

Sweet potato and spinach daahl (sp?)
Paneer and spinach curry
Teriyaki Tofu stir fry

MrsDThomas · 06/11/2022 13:39

After all that food, id just want beans on toast

QueenMabby · 06/11/2022 13:43

Thank you for all the replies they're illuminating!

I don't consider my meal plan labour intensive. Nothing will take more than 30-40 minutes to make (with a bit of added oven time on a couple).

There is a lot of meat but I shop carefully and we have virtually no food waste. I don't have "leftovers" of either meals or ingredients as I just buy what we need.

It's very interesting reading everyone else's ideas so thank you.

Jacket potato and salad with tuna/sweetcorn or beans and cheese? Fairly cheap and easy and you don't really miss the meat
If they really want meat then add crispy bacon to the beans and cheese

RobinRobinMouse · 06/11/2022 13:48

Another one saying sausages and mash, preferably my with lots of vegetables, gravy and a Yorkshire pudding. It would fit just perfectly into that gap on your meal plan.😀

TimBoothseyes · 06/11/2022 13:48

Sausage and bean stew with mash.

Argh - just lost a long reply!

A shorter version:

I don't think my meal plan looks time consuming. Nothing takes more then 30-40 mins (unless it's in the oven).

I don't really have leftovers either of meals or ingredients as I just buy/cook what we need.

Comments about it being a lot of food - surely that depends on how much you put on your plate?

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.

I’d love your Mexican fish recipe please.

Actually not at all Mexican but it's this:
