Should I take my boots back?

Bought a pair of boots from M&S last December. They cost £85 and are leather biker boots. I was wearing them the other day and my foot got rather soggy, had a look and there is a crack in the sole. I was telling my mum and saying I was hoping to replace them with DMs on my upcoming birthday, she suggested taking them back to M&S. Don't want to get laughed out of the store though...what are my chances?!

Only you know how much you've worn them in the last 10months. A crack in the sole of boots that have had a lot of wear is a bit rubbish but not unexpected - but If only lightly worn then I would give it a try. How worn do the soles look?

Can't comment on the M&S return but look at Solovair instead of DM. The quality of DM boots is rubbish these days but Solovair are still made in the UK and are excellent. They also break in aot easier than DMs in my experience.

Seems that they're 'not of merchantable quality' ie not fit for purpose. You should have a reasonable chance.

As long as they don’t look very worn overall then absolutely take them back. I’d expect them to last 3 years. Though next time if you can spend a bit more they’ll last a lot longer. DMs are no longer made in the UK and aren’t what they were - but the company that used to make them (solovair? Something like that) still makes very similar styles in there Northants factory and they do last years.

M&S used to have a fantastic returns policy not so much now, sadly. If the boots have only had limited wear and you have the receipt, its worth a try if you consider them faulty, the worse they can say is no. Good luck.

I would take them back, boots should last years.

If M&S don't help, could you get them re-soled at a local shoe mending place?

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/11/2022 07:40

.. also, if they are too worn to be returned, you can probably get them resoled.

I wouldn't say they are worn in fact they look brand new, inside all of the labels etc on the sole are still visible which I'd expect to be faded if they were worn. I think I'll try my luck, thank you for the boot recommendations too. I'd heard dms last forever what a shame that's no longer the case!

Definitely return them, if they look new.
