She's on gastrointestinal royal canin kitten food. Nothing else at the moment ( been on that for about 10 days now.

She's had antibiotics and is now on a lower dose. We've tried pro kolin and we had another's probiotic paste thing.
Antibiotics help immediately but then it's back to squirts.

What's my next step because it's conflicting information.

Should I gradually stop the gastrointestinal kitten?

Move to hills prescription gastro stuff or is it the same?

Try poached chicken and nothing else?

Try raw food.

Ask vet's for steroids? He spoke of steroids but only presented them as a longer term choice whereas on here posters have said they have been short term?

Obviously I'm in contact with vets but as ever information from here helps me to know what's going on and feed back to the vet.

The situation is dire and I'm struggling with it. Any help is appreciated.

We had a similar issue, it seems it's just a sensitive stomach for our cat. Poached chicken breast did help but it's not a long term solution and the problem would return after we stopped just feeding that.

What has worked for us after trying many things is only feeding royal canin digestive care biscuits and sprinkling a capsule of synbiotic d-c on them every day.

Things still aren't always perfect with his stomach but it's a huge improvement. Good luck, it's horrible to deal with isn't it.

Two ideas. A friend feeds her cats with the runs pumpkin puree. It all gets mixed up with I think rice and biscuit.
The other is allergy to something. A different cat cannot eat fish or chicken. Fine with red meat.
Good luck.

@belimoo

Thank you and yes! Absolutely awful dealing with this!

I would really recommend the synbiotic d-c if the vets have ruled out anything sinister.

Prior to that I tried raw food, pumpkin, chicken breast, pro kolin, expensive cat food of 97% protein and nothing worked.

The vet suggested eye wateringly expensive allergy tests but mentioned the synbiotic d-c as an alternative to pro kolin. That recommendation alone made it worth the cost of the visit!

I promise I don't work for them. I stopped using it for a while when I thought the issues were resolved and they came back, so for us it's a daily thing. You can easily split them apart and sprinkle the contents on food though, you don't have to make them swallow a tablet. And it doesn't seem to taste of anything which would put him off his food.

As I said, not 100% better but I would say 95%.

Bellmoo thanks,is that the exact name for it.

@Puddywoodycat Yes, I buy it from Amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003ZJ8AF0/ref=pe270633611487055811TEEdp_1

You can pull the capsules apart and sprinkle the powder inside on the food rather than trying to give it whole.

Thank you so much!

Both of mine had constant diarrhoea on kibble (puppies) so I transitioned to raw with an immediate improvement. The food you’re giving now isn’t working, clearly. I said the same the last time you posted. Be careful with treats, one puppy’s ears and bits were bright red after cheese.

Puddywoodycat · 13/11/2022 16:15

Oh thanks @Brigante9

It's a bit tricky for us because we've been waiting for sample's to return the vet put her on a different dose of antibiotics, DH ordered the wrong food so time for it to be sent back and between daily life trying to order another one , going for hypo allergenic now.

Then I tried to find raw food and no one sells it near me and I wasn't sure what to buy on line .

It feels like a slow motion situation.

Cat isn't getting any treats and nothing is going in bar royal canin gastro sensitive and anti biotics

You don’t need a raw food supplier nearby, I would start slow, reduce kibble by 20% and add something bland like Turkey mince. Stick with one protein type for 2 weeks, gradually increasing the amount of mince. Then add in a different protein eg chicken or beef mince.

I tend to order from online suppliers eg DAF www.daf-petfood.co.uk/select-site/ There are suppliers on eBay too. For one cat, however, I’d probably stick to buying in the supermarket. Chicken wings are about £2 a kilo, fish is always reduced in Morrisons. Bash up chicken wings for the cat, try just offering tips at first.

I can’t help with cat raw feeding beyond this but there are bound to be groups on eg Facebook.
