Brandy butter in pregnancy

I've accepted I can't get into a lovely warm jolly state on Christmas Day this year. I've even accepted I won't be able to eat the best bits of the cheese board.

But brandy butter is my absolute favourite Christmas thing. Would you have a couple of spoonful over Christmas if 36 weeks pregnant? Can it do any harm? Just Sainsbury's stuff - I'm avoiding my aunt's homemade cognac butter because that's stronger than a bottle of champagne.

Wouldn't occur to me not to eat it!

Oblomov22 · 05/11/2022 15:46

No. It'll be fine. Please stop worrying.

DelorisVC · 05/11/2022 15:47

It will be fine. Just do it.

The amount of alcohol you will consume will be tiny.

Enjoy.

MissRainbowBrite · 05/11/2022 15:53

It'll be fine, enjoy. The amount of alcohol in brandy butter by the time it enters your bloodstream will be negligible. I was around 34 weeks with DD at Christmas and remember treating myself to a small Baileys as I just fancied one and it was Christmas, it was the only alcohol I had all pregnancy and really enjoyed it.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 05/11/2022 15:53

I'd eat your Aunts stuff. A tablespoon full is way less than a single shot of brandy.

GingerbreadPanda · 05/11/2022 15:55

It will be fine.
Most of the cheese is also probably fine.

MegGriffinshat · 05/11/2022 15:56

I’ve had two pregnancies over christmas periods and it didn’t occur to me no to!

I had a small glass of white wine every other day whilst pregnant.
Dd is fine.
Eat the brandy butter!

I’m pregnant and l will be having some brandy butter.

I also intend to have all the cheeses l normally do but grill the risky ones like blue cheese. Cue lots of cheese on toast and Welsh rarebit!

PortiasBiscuit · 05/11/2022 16:04

Bio Oil works better..

enjoyingscience · 05/11/2022 16:06

Definitely enjoy it and relax! At that stage of pregnancy and the amount you’ll be having you will be taking no risk at all.

brandy butter is a non negotiable for me too, so I know where you’re coming from!

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2022 16:11

@ChristmasCakeAndStilton you haven't tasted it 😂

I would like to see the stats on risk of eating a bit of blue cheese while pregnant. I suspect getting into a car is far, far more risky.

Absolutely have the brandy butter. I had a glass of wine once in a while during pregnancy. I also got in a hot tub. I think grown women should make their own decisions rather than talking about what they are "allowed".

Hope you have it OP and hope you love it!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/11/2022 16:14

If you were me, you'd have had your baby by then, but a bit of brandy butter isn't going to hurt.

HippeePrincess · 05/11/2022 16:15

I’ll be eating the cheese and the brandy butter, probably a baileys or a glass of wine too over the festive period

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2022 16:17

Thanks all 🥰

You can eat Stilton, no need to cook it either. I lived on Stilton when I was pregnant at Christmas!

EvilRingahBitch · 05/11/2022 16:23

Less alcohol in a tablespoon of brandy butter than there is in a glass of orange juice. Go for it.

However I wouldn't necessarily recommend what I do, which is microwave a mince pie and cover it with Waitrose extra thick cream with brandy several times a day, and then when you've run out of mince pies eat it with a spoon.

Bio Oil works better..

As a Christmas tipple, or on Christmas pudding? 😉

LemonDrizzles · 05/11/2022 16:29

Yes it's fine. I had in both pregnancies
