Lawn spaghetti

So, I've just popped the dog into the garden for a few minutes, and she's been grubbing about as she normally does. She often digs out nuts buried by squirrels (we've yet to receive a letter of complaint from the squirrels, but expect it fairly soon), and today, I had a look at what she was eating from the hole in the lawn, fully expecting a nut.

It was spaghetti.

She dug up 2 or 3 little spaghetti-hoards, at various places around the lawn.

Has anybody any idea where lawn spaghetti comes from? We thought a bird may have dropped it on the way over, but it's buried, and there's several clumps. We thought it might be squirrels, but... well... what? They don't eat spaghetti, do they?

I've attached a picture, you can see the spaghetti on the yellow leaf, and a strand to the left of it. It was definitely buried. We're baffled.

I can’t tell from the photo (old eyes) but foxes bury all kinds of stuff.

Pixiedust1234 · 05/11/2022 16:16

I cant tell from the picture what it is but its either squirrels or foxes or....magpies/crows who steal the squirrel stash but replace it with a very low value item.

Or ask your dog to confess. Have you checked your spaghetti pot in the kitchen?

SweetBabyJebus · 05/11/2022 16:16

You sure it's not worms...🤢

Theunamedcat · 05/11/2022 16:33

I had to zoom but yes thats lawn spaghetti do you have children?

lemonyfox · 05/11/2022 16:45

Maybe kids threw spaghetti around on Halloween?

Watchkeys · 05/11/2022 18:12

No kids at home, and it's definitely spaghetti, not worms. I've spoken to the dog, @Pixiedust1234 , but she swears she's got no idea. We can't remember what was in the spaghetti pot to start with..

There was a BBC April Fool's day prank where they did a documentary on the 'spaghetti harvest' they filmed people taking it off bushes but you have proven that it is actually a root vegetable.

It's squirrels. My parents had a barbecue and since it ended very late, they left the clearing up until morning. When my mum went out to make a start, she disturbed a squirrel dragging a sweetcorn into the bushes.

For months afterwards she was finding the end of a frankfurter in the patio rose pot, or a hoard of nacho chips stuffed at the root of the fuchsia. If they think it might be edible, they store it.
