Mans 50th early ‘23

Hi, my lovely thoughtful man will be 50 next year. I’m really struggling for inspiration on what to get him.

unfortunately I can’t book an experience, as he is not functioning 100%, and he is awaiting a major op in order to go forward in life.

He is way younger in attitude to life than his years.

Interests are=
projects with wood.

certain antiques and curios such as on t.v. salvage hunter Drew Pritchard is.

He is also inquisitive re innovations.

I would say he’s a creative soul, and more talented than (he just mutters that he’s rubbish!) he lets on.

so due to the upcoming surgery, I don’t believe he’ll be capable of travel or anything that requires physical exertion…

id be so grateful for any ideas you may come up with.

I do appreciate that guys in general are not the easiest of recipients to buy for, and I bear in mind that you don’t know him, so that further stymies ideas.

As an added extra, I would have liked to buy him a bottle of Creed Aventus, but it’s extortionately expensive. Do you know of a really good copy?

Thanks for reading if you got this far 👍

I cannot think of anything, perhaps you could ask him?

Orangestrap · 05/11/2022 06:02

I also have a really hard to buy for husband and I got him a really good camera for his 50th. It’s been a really big hit and complimented his other hobbies. I find men (and boys) in general really hard to buy for!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/11/2022 07:00

a pair of good quality cuff links

why?

1 every self respecting man should own at least one pair of really nice cuff links

2 they look nice as a gift

3 they’re small - so even if he doesn’t like them he’ll tend to just stick them in a drawer somewhere rather than throw them away

4 even if he only wears them once a year whenever he does it will remind him of you

5 most men won’t buy cuff links themselves

butterfliedtwo · 05/11/2022 07:03

Ask him what he would like?

VeganFromSveden · 05/11/2022 07:12

Yes I could ask him, and that is the most straightforward way.
However, we both enjoy surprising each other, as twenty years on we are still in the honeymoon (long may it last!) period.
Also, we have both been through so much with his illness, physically and emotionally.
We’ve supported each other in thick & thin.
i believe deserves a nice surprise.
Thanks

Sorry, cuff links are a great idea if the chap likes socialising in circles that would require him to dress that way…
thank you for your kind input.

Wood turning thing ? Not sure what it's called .

mrsjimhopper · 05/11/2022 10:18

My husband got a fancy axe for his 30th for chopping wood.

Maybe a nice fancy tool?

He aslo loves drew and tee. Maybe there is a book they have written? Can't really buy curios for them as they are so niche.

mrsjimhopper · 05/11/2022 10:21

Mine would hate cuff links because that would mean he would need to buy a shirt Grin

Other things are a leather or leather and cavas apron, multi tool etc. go for small and high quality.

NinjaMeemaw · 05/11/2022 10:33

What about a Leatherman multi-tool? They come in a nice leather case and you can even get them engraved.

HardStareBear · 05/11/2022 21:16

Mine isn't really bothered by stuff, so I took him away for a night to a lovely country hotel and we had a beautiful dinner and some time just the two of us (we have kids, and no family nearby to babysit, so it's a very rare treat to be just the two of us). Would something like that appeal?

Energeticenoch · 05/11/2022 21:22

I took mine away for the night to s lovely hotel. I also bought him some lovely Japanese whisky which he likes and a picture he had had his eye on

Energeticenoch · 05/11/2022 21:23

To add, that he got a voucher for a meal in an amazing restaurant he wouldn’t have paid for him self.

to add, creed is so amazing if you can stretch to it……

Lulanna · 05/11/2022 21:26

i know you thought not a trip, but would he be able to stay overnight somewhere where there is a vintage fair or vintage warehouse. Sort of a themed shop.

Hotpotatotoe · 05/11/2022 21:26

Do you have a national trust place nearby? You could buy and plant an oak tree for him and watch it grow over the next few decades together

VeganFromSveden · 06/11/2022 06:59

Thank you for all the kind replies so far.
Restaurants are not a great idea for him as his illness has sapped his (hoping for that to be restored with results from next op) confidence.
Thanks to the pp who said how amazing Creed Aventus is… if I can’t get an amazing copy, then I’ll need to find a site that sells the real thing at an affordable (to me) price…. Even the empty bottles go for £££ on eBay 😱

If he likes working with wood, how about a knife, engraved with his initials www.victorinox.com/uk/en/Products/Swiss-Army-Knives/Large-Pocket-Knives/c/SAK_LargePocketKnives?ScrollPosition=0&maxResults=30
