Is a one hour commute too much?

I am looking at taking a job with an hours commute which could see me being out of the house from 6.30 - 7.30 three days a week. I have a young baby but my partner will take care of childcare runs on these days. I can’t decide if the commute will wear thin very quickly, especially in the winter. I am however really excited about this job opportunity but I don’t want to make the wrong move. What sort of commutes do people do with young kids?

Op, what's the alternative? You not working? Or something closer but less money / career progression?

The Job Centre deems journeys 90mins on NMW as being totally acceptable.

I wasn't a huge fan, tbh, and far prefer 20-30 mins for a lot less cost on public transport, but if the money and the job are good enough, especially if it's not 5-6 days a week, it's doable.

Let's face it, if this was a man he wouldn't even be asking the question!

Go for it op

Plenty of men do consider the length of their commute and work/life balance. 6.30am - 7.30pm is substantially longer than most people's working day (even men's)

I did more than an hour commute before having DC and didn't mind it, but wouldn't like it now.
Even with the enjoyment of podcasts or audiobooks, I'd resent that it's time away from DH and DC, and less time for DH and I to allocate to our hobbies. There's only so many hours in the day after all.

It depends on priorities in the short and medium term. If it's a long commute for a year or so in a dream job and you have enough float in your household week then that's very different than if you have lots of things you want to do in your week that you'd have to sacrifice to account for commuting time.
