What mattress do you have?

Hi All,

I am in desperate need of a nice new mattress having slept on a horrid one for years!

Been and sat on a few and I think I rather like the spring mattresses with the layer of gel/memory on top (think they are called Hybrid?). I don’t want anything too firm.. I suppose just medium?

I did look into Simba and Emma mattresses but seeing lots of mixed reviews.

Looking to get other opinions and recommendations please!

Thanks x

I have a Nectar mattress and it's great. Not hot and very comfortable.

Madbadandusuallysad · 04/11/2022 17:07

SIMBA Hybrid is sooo hot at night. My skin actually leaks in it.

@Rachell1 no not too hot. (I'm always cold.) I just hate the squished-down saggy me-shaped indentation in the memory foam. I'd definitely prefer a firmer mattress.

WhereYouLeftIt · 04/11/2022 17:33

We have a Mammoth mattress, it's 10 years old now and will probably replace it with another Mammoth.

TheNoodlesIncident · 04/11/2022 17:40

We have IKEA Vesteroy. Medium firm. Much cheaper than the one we had previously and suits us perfectly.

Like a PP we liked the mattresses in another place (abroad), checked the labels and were delighted to find it was IKEA.

We are lucky that we have a bed shop that makes their own mattresses so we went there, bought directly from them. Owner was incredibly knowledgeable, we laid on a few mattresses in the shop, Dh stated what he liked, I stated what I liked and they then made the mattress to our desires. We knew exactly what was in it and you could see the people in the factory bit making them too.

It wasn't that expensive. We paid just under £1k 9 years ago and that included a divan base, in the colour we wanted and the feet we wanted. It is a super king zip and link. We call it the cloud. It is still in incredibly good nick despite its age. Dh is built like a rugby player and well over 6 feet tall, I am shorter and lighter.

See if you too can find a shop that makes mattresses on site. Then it can be made to your specification. What is firm for me is not firm for Dh.

I have a sprung mattress with a silk top as I used to get very sweaty in bed

bloodyplanes · 04/11/2022 17:49

I have a simba and my dd has an emma! Both are extremely comfortable and most definitely worth the money.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 04/11/2022 17:51

An EVE mattress, it’s wonderful!

Hypnos Premier Inn mattress. Great. Also you can try it out at a Premier Inn first!
Also, if you have a relative who works for Whitbread group you can get them at a substantial discount.

I was literally just coming to say this. My mum worked for Whitbread at the time and she got me the double mattress for £179 and my nana the king size for £199.

My best friend still works for Whitbread and I have a new bed to buy in the next few weeks so I'm hoping she can order for me!

It's such a comfortable mattress.

langos · 04/11/2022 17:59

Another vote for the premier inn Hypnos. We bought it after a stay there and realising how much comfier it was than our own mattress.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2022 18:02

Hyde and sleep memory foam. It's too hard. So have a Panda mattress topper. Thinking of swapping to a premier inn mattress.

Donepaying · 04/11/2022 18:05

I love my Octosmart hybrid deluxe
Not too hot , medium to firm

Orangello · 04/11/2022 18:06

IKEA Vatneström and it's better than my previous one that was literally 5 times the price.

Athenen0ctua · 04/11/2022 18:07

We have IKEA Hafslo firm in a single and a double. Basic spring mattresses but comfy, no sagging after 5 years and less than £100.

ofwarren · 04/11/2022 18:07

We have a silent night. It's sprung with a memory foam top layer.
We tried a Simba and absolutely hated it.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 04/11/2022 18:08

We got an emma and LOVE IT. Absolutely brilliant - we also got one for our (very spoilt) daughter and it's really comfy.

Jellybean23 · 04/11/2022 18:12

Harrison Spinks, so comfy. After years of suffering uncomfortable firm mattresses, we realised that a medium one is better for us.

jay55 · 04/11/2022 18:17

I have a tempur hybrid, cost a fortune but I love it so much.

80sMum · 04/11/2022 18:18

I have an Emma Original (with an additional 2cm soft top layer supplied by Emma, as initially I found the mattress a bit too firm).
I've had it almost 2 years now and I find it very comfortable.

For info, in case it's relevant, I sleep on my back and I weigh about 8 stone. I'm not sure whether the mattress would be supportive for anyone over about 10 stone. I think they might find it rather too soft and yielding.

kcloverlet · 04/11/2022 18:23

We have an Emma and I hate it. It's been replaced under warranty once (after 2 years) for being lumpy but less than a year later the new one is lumpy, despite turning it regularly.

I wish we had spent more money on a nicer one

elephantseal · 04/11/2022 18:28

We have a Feather & Black memory foam mattress. Had it 12 years. Probably need to change it, but it's the most comparable mattress we've ever had.

I sleep better in my bed than anywhere else. I have a tendency to get hot, but the mattress doesn't make me or h hot or sweaty. I just love it.

Spanielsarepainless · 04/11/2022 18:37

Marks and Spencer silk and wool one. It comes with an integral down topper. I look forward to my bed! Base is a standard firm divan.

flflflf · 04/11/2022 18:38

i got the ikea one which is the Which recommended one. It's quite firm but comfy enough and pretty durable esp for the price.
