Mice problem, so worried, baby too

Found mouse droppings I think in new house. Two tiny pellets in corner of living room. One tiny pellet in kitchen. Both very hard and I touched them without realising what they were! Im now really worried about viruses etc and the baby?

ive heard scratching in the attic but when someone came out from the council they couldn’t see any evidence of droppings so just left some poison and said they would come back.

any advice? Im very worried about illness because of the baby and I’m on my own

Really @Miceprobelms there is nothing for you to worry about…mice aren’t dangerous unless you’re eating ones that have eaten poison!

they only come in after food, so if you sweep the floor and clean the worktops regularly there won’t be any crumbs to entice them!

2 small droppings doesn't soubd like a huge problem, leave a couple of traps out over night and put them away each morning to try and catch them. Everyone I speak to seems to get mice coming in this time of year so don't worry too much

Miceprobelms · 03/11/2022 13:36

@Rosio @Umbellifer ive read you can get illness from their poo/urine? And cause birth defects (I’m also pregnant). This is what is worrying me most

Calm yourself dearest girl, if you had a whole plague of mice in your house for months, all of whom were very sick, and you regularly touched their droppings and urine, then you might, but only might, make yourself unwell.

But we do not have plagues of mice here, they are just coming in because it’s getting colder, and for food. And as far as I know we do not have mice with the viruses that you are frightening yourself by reading about, or it would be all over the news and we’d all know about it.

I promise you there is nothing to worry about, not for you or your little one, so try not to read anything else online and do not stress about it, as you and your baby are and will be fine xx

We are having the same problem, seen a mouse run past me in the living room,we sealed the hole in went back in but yesterdays we found a lot more droppings,so we got some traps today, now I’m on mouse watch.

Put chocolate and peanut butter in the traps - works a treat

@Itstheeconomystupid Thank you

If you manage to capture one, leave it’s body out for a few days as an example to others. This was the most effective way to that took care of my infestation.
Gruesome, but I was desperate, they had got to the stage of playing on my kitchen countertops and bedroom and leaving droppings on my bed! By then it was a huge infestation.

Mine went crazy for olives.

We get a few mice in the house every winter. We catch and release (chocolate brownie is my go-to bait). Never had them come back. I handled the traps and cleaned up the droppings when I was pregnant and I never caught anything. Try not to worry too much. It’s probably just one or two and they should be easy to catch. They’re not as clever or as nasty as rats!

We get them too. Little fuckers! Just clear any food off the counters and put out a couple of traps.
