Best breakfast tea

I'm relatively new to a morning brew and usually have Yorkshire teabags. I'd love to try other brands. I don't want a flavoured tea, just normal breakfast tea.
Don't mind if they're pricey as I'm going to ask dh for Christmas!

I find that breakfast tea has too much tannin. Marks and Spencer Gold Blend tea is the best I have found.

Stick with Yorkshire, it’s the best.

I am fond of Chai Tea. Its yummy and doesn't darken the teeth. Drink Me Chai is £2.50 in Asda. For ordinary tea, I have given up brewing tea bags for lemon tea powder or instant tea powder. Typhoo is nice

Twinnings breakfast tea!!! Always a treat

BamBamBilla · 03/11/2022 08:39

Loose leaf assam. 3 minutes brew.

Agree!

Yorkshire for me too - the normal one, not Gold. DH and I did a blind tasting, both of us preferred it. We have the decaf for the evenings.

Cookerhood · 03/11/2022 08:45

M&S Gold or Waitrose gold - I can't tell the difference. Waitrose also do an extra strong version. I like my tea strong but the regular one is fine. I really miss them when I have to use something else. During lockdown we had Clipper organic a couple of times which were fine but not quite as good!

Also Fortnums Queen Anne, twinings every day. I find other breakfast teas too strong.

I’m partial to Great British Cuppa from Bird & Blend (loose leaf), but of the big brand tea bag companies, I like Yorkshire the most.

FennelAndOnions · 03/11/2022 09:15

Clipper tea is really nice and strong. Makes a proper cuppa.

DH bought me some Fortnum and Mason’s tea as a treat and unfortunately it’s really weak and grey.

Cookerhood · 03/11/2022 09:28

There's nothing worse than a disappointing cup of tea! (I know lots of things are really!)

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 03/11/2022 09:29

Fortnums Irish breakfast
twinings assam
twinings breakfast

in that order

IntentionalError · 03/11/2022 09:30

You are already drinking the best breakfast tea. In our house, there is simply no substitute for Yorkshire Tea, and we prefer the standard blend to Gold.

eggsandbaconeveryday · 03/11/2022 09:31

I've become partial to Twinnings recently and do love a chai tea too

TheFeistyFeminist · 03/11/2022 09:38

In my very limited taste tests, Yorkshire is a middle ground tea, you can make it strong but it's acceptable even if the brew is quite short.

Twinings English Breakfast is weak, I would have to use two bags per mug.

Waitrose Essential is nice, not far off Yorkshire. Sainsbury red label is similar, a straightforward workhorse.

The water makes such a difference; leave anything to brew too long and there's a scum on the top (hard water area).

Open to hearing about fancy teas, this could make some good Christmas gifting.

Deathraystare · 05/11/2022 10:02

I used to like M&S extra strong but am a wimp now and find it too strong! I am not fussed as long as it is not PG Tips! I normally get Yorkshire decaff but at work I got Tetly but also like M&S Gold or Waitrose or Sainsbury red label. Also love Earl Grey with milk but some people find it too flowery. I also used to love Lapsang but have not had it in years!

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2022 10:03

Twinings Earl Grey all the way in our house! Although I tend to drink coffee in the morning and tea later.

h78 · 05/11/2022 14:45

Twinnings everyday well rounded tea

Ageneralsenseofproundconcern · 05/11/2022 14:51

Sainsbury’s taste the difference Ceylon. Not as tannic as anything “breakfast” but also not floral (Darjeeling is the devil’s tea).

Honeyroar · 05/11/2022 14:54

I’ve worked in cafes/ hospitality for decades, many of which sold craft/arty company’s teas. Now I have my own café and while my coffee is more “posh” I sell Yorkshire tea, and I’ve never had so many people comment on what a nice cup of tea it is…

Overoptimistix · 05/11/2022 16:12

I echo Clipper, not quite as tannin-y as Yorkshire but still strong and brews well.

Pedallleur · 05/11/2022 16:46

Loose leaf Darjeeling but Earl Grey (Loose leaf) in the evening

LightGreenDot · 05/11/2022 20:01

T2 is my absolute favourite, had it when out once and since then I always have some in for when I need an extra nice cup of tea. They mostly do loose leaves so take care to choose the right one if you want bags.
