Quiz round ideas please?!

We’re having a quiz at our wedding and so far have two traditional rounds that will be read out (only 5 questions a round, so a short icebreaker really). We want one more round that people can work on throughout the meal. There will be children there but only 2 will probably be old enough to join in. Originally we’d wanted to do a Lego sculpture competition but we decided that logistically it wouldn’t work (babies eating small bits and too time consuming to make anything recognisable), then we thought of playdoh but worried about it making a mess of the venue.

We looked at a picture round where we photoshop our heads onto other famous couples but it will be a lot of work for DF who’s got lots of other stuff on his plate and I think you’d have to have them pretty big to be able to see the details, which might then look a bit naff if there’s massive piles of paper on the tables. Has anyone got any good ideas?

I’m totally outing myself but it’s an autumnal theme, one of us is from Liverpool and one from London (we’ve got one round based on that). We want something that will be entertaining and light hearted, not something that feels like the guests are sitting an exam!

To make it a bit more interesting could you do a quiz about your guests? Such as “what’s the furthest distance a guest has travelled here today?”; “how many different languages are spoken by our guests?” You’d obviously need to do your research on your guests though! Or questions about the local area?

Dingbats! Our local quiz always has a dingbats round that you work on in the breaks.

Blondbombsite · 02/11/2022 13:33

Thanks for your ideas! I like the idea of a quiz about our guests as it would encourage people to speak to each other, would it work if it’s after we’ve sat down though?

I love dingbats! However, I can just imagine my DM and DB getting in a real fluster and getting upset thinking that I’m ‘trying to show them up’ as they’d struggle with them. We vetoed anagrams for the same reasons.

Photos of the bridal party + family as babies. Perhaps all in black and white to reduce any differences in film quality

I like the house of games 'it's all in the name' one which is easy to adapt. Come up with clues for words that can be formed using letters of people's names.

Topbird29 · 02/11/2022 13:39

Sometimes our local quiz does a round where you get the first letter of each word and have to guess the saying or the answer. For example:
52 WIAY = 52 weeks in a year.
ABITHIWTITB = a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

You could maybe tailor it a bit if wanted.

Or maybe design a wordsearch. Just print a grid, add words of your choice (with a list), and then add in the random letters to fill the gaps. Shouldn't take too long to make.

During lockdown our pub quiz team did a zoom one between our team when the proper one couldnt run.
We had...
Guess the cocktail
Bad taxidermy
Guess the correct brand icon
Hot dogs or legs (holiday photos)
Guess the chocolate bar from its cross section.
All sorts.

Homewardbound2022 · 02/11/2022 13:52

Enjoyable rounds from my pub quiz:

Photos of political figures as young children
High rise structures across the world
Bridges of the world
Airport codes
Famous logos
Mountain ranges
Album covers
Paintings

Homewardbound2022 · 02/11/2022 14:03

Some more:

A common greeting (e.g. good morning) in several languages
Road signs - guess the country
Parliaments across the world - photo of building or its name
Famous events - in which year did they happen
Currencies - guess the country of origin

Blondbombsite · 02/11/2022 19:41

Some great ideas. Does anyone have any others that are perhaps more wedding-y or that we can tailor to us?

Chocolate, sweets and food adverts e.g. "What has a hazelnut in every bite" and no it's not squirrel shit 😂

Willbe2under2 · 02/11/2022 19:49

I did a written quiz round once and did guess the attraction from the trip advisor review - so I found some completely nuts reviews and got them to guess the attraction.

If you wanted to do it weddingy you could describe wedding traditions and see if people could guess them?

Willbe2under2 · 02/11/2022 19:50

Or wedding traditions from around the world?

MarmiteCoriander · 02/11/2022 19:57

A cousin did a quiz about quirky/unusual wedding traditions from around the world. Or add a pic of something on the quiz paperwork for some questions (a wedding item from another culture for example) and asking what its for.

'In which country would it be seen as good luck to have guests spit on the brides dress?'- Kenya

' What is traditionally given as an anniversary gift for the 3rd/5th/10th year of marriage? etc

BMW6 · 02/11/2022 19:58

Roman Numerals translation, a number

BMW6 · 02/11/2022 19:59

Should say or translate a number into Roman Numerals

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 02/11/2022 20:16

A couple that I recall...

Identifying the Mr Men/Little Miss characters

Identifying the cities from airport letters eg
JFK , LHR , DEL etc...

MinnesotaMuffin · 02/11/2022 20:23

Do a picture round of famous married couples and give a bonus point for the year that they married. You could add that to the wedding traditions around the globe quiz pp has suggested.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 02/11/2022 20:25

Famous people wedding pics without heads?
Guess who

OliveHenry · 02/11/2022 20:35

On the morning of my sister's wedding she was a bit worried that the guests wouldn't mingle - family from up north and work colleagues from down south. So we put together a quiz at the last minute all about the guests, designed to get them talking to each other to find out the answers.

And we didn't need to do any research at all - when it was time to mark it, we got the person concerned to give the answer.

It went down really well! (Once we'd nipped out to the local shop to buy biros, and despite the fact that my great aunt told some people her favourite seaside resort was Blackpool, and some Bournemouth!)

Audioslaw · 02/11/2022 20:35

Picture round but places that are in London/Liverpool. Similarly for the music round do songs by bands from both places or song names with a connection to either.

A good round to finish is like a scavenger hunt so the bride/groom or whoever the quizmaster is stands at the front and the team win points for the fastest to bring a certain item to you, for instance a left shoe, a lipstick, an empty glass, a hair grip, a hat etc etc, that one is really good to get the kids involved.

MadeForThis · 02/11/2022 20:39

You need a picture round

Company logos
Famous landmarks
Spitting image characters

girlsyearapart · 02/11/2022 20:48

Cockney rhyming slang

if you wanted a round where people have to do something I’ve done a quiz where you get a sheet of foil on your table and have to make a model based on a theme. People then take them to a table a la bake off and they are judged / guess what they are!
anyway foil isn’t messy
