Best pyjamas to take someone in hospital?

My friend has been taken to hospital with severe breathing difficulties. She has no immediate family around so I'm her support system. I'm nipping out to get her some pj's and toiletries. If you have any relevant experience, please can you advise me: what are the best pj's to get ? Nightie? Button up? Warm or cool ?

And the most crucial toiletries ? Obviously toothbrush and toothpaste, face flannel, face wash. Anything else ?

Depending on her health she may be better off wearing a hospital gown rather than pjs but if you do get anything I would suggest buttons for easy access for ecgs etc. Nothing too warm.
Toiletries I would also take some lip balm and moisturiser. Also maybe some baby wipes for quick freshen ups. If she ends up on drips and pumps etc she may not be able to have a full wash with ease and wipes are great just to feel a bit fresher
From my experience I didn't need much more, in fact I didn't want much there as there is no space in the cubicles in the ward and if they have a side room there's no guarantee of staying there so less stuff to look after and move around the better.

I would advise a button up top and some bottoms. As they may want to have access to her chest. I would get her some fluffy socks also. Hospitals can be cold at night. Get her some travel size toiletries. Toothpaste, toothbrush, body wash etc.

Hospitals usually very warm, so fairly lightweight pyjamas. Button up the front is more dignified for examinations which might need access to her chest. Maybe a cardigan for if she is wants a bit if cosiness.

She’ll need slippers as well if she can get out of bed.

I hope your friend makes a speedy recovery. You’re being a good friend to her at a difficult time.

Thin pyjamas. Doesn’t matter if button up or not. I’d say comfy stretchy though.
Slippers.
Lip balm
hand cream
book
moisturiser
fleece or cardigan

do you know if she uses face wash and a flannel? Not everyone does.

SheWoreYellow · 02/11/2022 08:22

Pants and socks

SheWoreYellow · 02/11/2022 08:22

Ear plugs.

sorry!

BobbyBobbyBobby · 02/11/2022 08:23

Every hospital I’ve ever stayed in has been boiling hot so I would make sure you don’t buy anything with synthetic fibres.

SheWoreYellow · 02/11/2022 08:23

sorry, last one, deodorant.

Cheap flip flops to wear as slippers and in the shower

TwigTheWonderKid · 02/11/2022 08:26

I'd get a button up nightie and button up pyjamas so she has a choice. Short sleeved if possible, it's usually very warm in hospital. A lightweight dressing gown too and some slippers.

I think some nice facial wipes would be a good addition to your toiletry list.

Maybe a bottle of squash and some sucky sweets too.

Has she got means to charge her phone? A couple of non-taxing books or some magazines or a Wordsearch Sudoku type book if she would like those?

LIZS · 02/11/2022 08:26

Are they on drips etc. if so hospital may prefer to provide gowns or pjs. Otherwise lightweight, easy to wash, several pairs plus slippers or bed socks with grips(again hospital may provide) and a bathrobe.

Branleuse · 02/11/2022 08:27

Id take her an eye mask and ear plugs for sleep

Itisbetter · 02/11/2022 08:28

I prefer light tracksuit bottoms/yoga pants and a Tshirt. It’s nice to feel “dressed”. Deodorant, tweezers, hairbrush, hair ties, simple cleansing wipes, toothbrush, chewing gum, moisturiser.

QualityTweet · 02/11/2022 08:32

Short sleeved pyjama tops for easy access to arms for blood pressure/blood samples. My lovely well meaning husband didn’t think of this when I was in hospital.

Teeshirt · 02/11/2022 08:33

Definitely button-up pyjamas. Nothing that you might have to pull over your head. I’d look for cotton. Earplugs. Phone charger on a long lead. Some snacks. Water bottle. Something to do -book, cross-stitch etc.

Button up pj's would be my preference, definitely not night dress, probably cool thin ones but make sure they cover everywhere.

Drbrowns · 02/11/2022 08:38

Flip flops for the shower.

CharlotteStreet · 02/11/2022 08:41

A razor.

I have problems with facial hair and have nightmares about ending up in hospital without.

trampoline123 · 02/11/2022 08:47

After many stays in hospital I would say...

As it's breathing issues I guess they will be listening to her chest a lot so button up for easy access would be good. I prefer tops and bottoms and not too warm, hospitals aren't always roasting on the wards.

Toiletries I always take:

Toothbrush/toothpaste
Shower gel and pouff
Face wash and flannel
Moisturiser
Lip balm
Cotton buds
Deodorant - maybe a roll on in these circumstances
Some tissue face masks - sounds silly but it's nice to have a bit of a treat type thing

trampoline123 · 02/11/2022 08:48

And ear plugs and an eye mask are essential. And size up on pjs for comfiness

trampoline123 · 02/11/2022 08:48

And a razor!

To be honest I look like I'm moving in when I pack for hospital

Toddlerteaplease · 02/11/2022 08:49

Find out what type of Pj's she'd normally wear and take them. I'd hate to wear a nightie. Because it's not what I would usually wear.

Hai2012 · 02/11/2022 08:50

When I've been in hospital, I've worn a thin stretchy nightie, with pyjama trousers. That way if she gets hot she can take the bottoms off, but still be covered by the nightie

Montague22 · 02/11/2022 08:50

Cool, button up. Dark colour or pattern so don’t show stains.
