Really upset not to have heard back after interview

I applied on a bit of a whim, but after the interview felt quite excited about the role and thought it had gone well.

The interview was early last week and they did say they would be interviewing all week, but that they'd make a decision by Monday (yesterday).

I'm assuming therefore that I've been unsuccessful. How rude?! It was quite a high level post and they sent loads of stuff for to prepare before the interview (ie i spent a pot of time on it) and they can't even get in touch!

I'm trying to be charitable and think something happened to delay the decision, but even then, wouldn't it be courteous to let people know?

It's bad enough that employers don't bother to notify candidates who don't reach interview- an email costs nothing.
DS recently applied for a job with a big company. Got a rejection and shrugged it off. Then he got another email saying the rejection was automated and was an error and they wanted to see him. Took afternoon off work to go for an interview and was told he'd hear by Friday. That was a month ago. They never got back to him, but he had already decided he wouldn't take a job there.

Maybe they don’t have assistants to drop people emails? It’s hardly efficient. Like PP have says it could be there’s other things going on they need to deal with that cropped up. I’d see your point if it was weeks after but the timescale we’re talking about I think you can give them some grace until you know what’s what?

Well I don't know, but if you're going to do the whole "our people are our most important asset" thing like so many employers do, I don't think finding time to send an email to people who have given you a whole day, plus prep, for an interview should be too much to ask.

OK. Thanks for your views. I actually interview myself and getting back when I said I will is something I am scrupulous about, even if it's just to let them know the decision's been delayed.

I'm a rec to rec and the only reason my acceptance ratio is so high because if there's a delay I drop an email. It's really not hard to say "still working on it, I'll be in touch shortly". Any communication- you're not asking for much. It's annoying, but don't give up hope, not everyone is so scrupulous.

It could just be that someone is sick of they haven't been able to get hold of an approver/decision maker

We had a situation where we invited a candidate back for a second interview via email - she didn’t respond, we were surprised but didn’t want to hassle, so had planned to chase after a week - the candidate wrote to us after 3 days asking what had gone wrong as she thought the interview went really well, after a bit of head scratching we realised her email had been misspelled!!! She got the job - simple misunderstandings happen. Have some patience OP, hope you hear some good news soon.

What’s a rec to rec?

Rec to rec is Recruitment to Recruitment - i.e. a Recruitment Consultant in the Recruitment sector rather than for example Industrial or Commercial/Office sector.
