Can I put a tumble dryer in a cupboard?

We have a cupboard in the kitchen that is a reasonable size and I thought we could put a table dryer in it, obviously a condenser. It isn't an enormous cupboard but we can get plenty in it. Dh says it won't be ventilated enough, is he correct?

My BIl has one in a cupboard and it seems fine. It’s not what I’d do though.

Mine is in a cupboard. It's made the paint inside blister but other than that's it's fine.

We did it and it was a big mistake. Not ventilated enough and caused damp and mould. You would need to keep the cupboard door open and a windows open while on to reduce that possibility (we didn't until too late)

My heat pump one is in a cupboard- no issues but I only use it for sheets and towels so it’s not on every day.

We used to have our condenser one in a cupboard but I always felt a bit paranoid about it so in the end we just moved it to the kitchen and sacrificed a kitchen unit.

We had a washer and tumble dryer in a cupboard but had an extractor installed in there too.

It worked really well but I wouldn't have one without an extractor as it would get very damp. I was told it could also be dangerous as the moisture can get into the machine electrics and I didn't fancy getting electrocuted.

I had a condenser dryer in a cupboard. No problems. It was a huge cupboard, though.

most tumble dryers will be tightly wedged between units and have the kitchen worktop over them. So I don’t see how that’s any different to bring in a cupboard as long as the cupboard door is open

Ours is in a cupboard but we had an extractor fan put in to deal with the ventilation. My sister had hers built into a cupboard without ventilation and has to leave the cupboard door open while it's running which she finds annoying. Your DH is right that ventilation is important. The condenser does extract most of the moisture but no machine is perfect ao there will still be a lot of warm moist air generated and if you don't have ventilation you will get mold.

Mine is in a cupboard which is designed for a vented drier though so it has a big hole at the back which may be why I've never had any issues with mould etc

Ours is a normal tumble dryer in an cuboard. It's still vented out through the wall though. In 15 years and no issues.

Mine is on a cupboard - a big cupboard with an opening into the loft above, though, so pretty ventilated. I also leave the door open when it’s on because sometimes it overheats.

I had cupboards built around my washer and my dryer. Top of dryer gets very hot so worktop above can get hot. I dare not close the cupboard doors when the appliances are running and I don’t leave the dryer on when I’m not in the house nor do I leave it on overnight. I’m too scared the cupboard will start to burn/melt so I have to be in and awake just in case when the dryer is on. Also may be coincidence but I am on the third dryer in the 12 years since having it in a cupboard, no way to know if overheating is why or if they just don’t last more than a few years these days.
