Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day - I'm feeling quite productive though; the washer's on, I've washed up last night's tea cups, and I'm just about to varnish the last bit of some story spoons I've painted for work. When I've done that, I'll refill my cup and tidy round the kitchen & living room.

We're not doing much today - there are three pumpkins waiting to be carved so that's the plan. Dd2 wants to print a photo of her last praying mantis, 'Pancake', to go in the frame she bought the other day so the printer's out for that.

We'll probably pop up the few Halloween decorations that are easily accessible too.

Roast chicken for tea. How exciting the accompaniments are, entirely depends on how pumpkin carving goes 🤣 If we're still doing them when the oven goes on, chances are it'll be a very simple dinner accompanied by a glass of wine for me!

Tonight I want to finish the crochet banana I've been making my colleague, there are only a few rounds left. I should then probably do dd2's pea and tangerine she's asked for before carrying on my Christmas village.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning all

Happy birthday @merrymelodies , 21 again? 😆🥳

DH and I are still in bed drinking coffee. The DC are gaming 🙄 still it gets the game time out of the way early.

I did get up and put a wash on so that’s something.

About to go shower and then I want to tidy up a bit. DH is in charge of pumpkin carving later. I might try and find some new recipes to bake pumpkin stuff afterwards. Just remembered I have some Halloween cupcake cases that have been gathering dust for years so maybe I can use those up!

DH is doing a roast tonight which is my favourite. 🥳 I have a horrible feeling I’ve promised to make the DC mac&cheese instead as they hate roast… need to check the meal plan so that doesn’t catch me out later.

AllotmentTime · 30/10/2022 10:03

Maybe these and I’ll add a handful of chocolate chips too (because I can)

ThatDreamSheep · 30/10/2022 10:04

Hubby is at work. Kids are currently watching The Nightmare before Christmas and I'm having beans on toast in peace. Already made a Lemon Drizzle Cake for later, have a Halloween party then roast round the in-laws with said cake. Slow day ready for school tomorrow. Also, thanking the me of last weekend who ironed the uniform so I don't have to today!

Justonedayatatime11 · 30/10/2022 10:07

Still in bed with the kitten. DD is downstairs drawing and DH is in the kitchen making breakfast. Chucking it down with rain, have a mountain of housework and washing to do but lacking in enthusiasm and energy! DD has been ill all week with the non covid virus from hell and hasn't eaten a proper meal since Monday. So today will mostly be spent trying to find something she'll eat and deciding whether she's well enough to go back to school tomorrow

mamaduckbone · 30/10/2022 10:08

I'm currently sitting in the car having a quiet moment and waiting for my nails to dry before venturing out to watch ds2's rugby match (ran out of time to do them before leaving the house!)

Then it's a quick turnaround to go and meet all the family at a local pub for my mum's 90th birthday lunch.

We hosted 18 last night for stage 1 of the celebrations so I was grateful for the extra hour in bed but it was lovely...4 generations including my very new great-niece and nephew.

Kim82 · 30/10/2022 10:10

Morning! It’s the last day of half term today, back to school/uni for the dc tomorrow so as dh isn’t working we’ve decided to take them all out. We’re going bowling then out for a late lunch/early dinner then after that driving to Blackpool to go in the arcades eat chips and donuts and drive home through the illuminations.

I don’t have my usual Sunday blues today, uniforms and homework have already been sorted and I have a week off work so I’m in a very good mood! 😁

Rebelmcstreettuff · 30/10/2022 10:11

mamacattiva · 30/10/2022 10:20

Managed to get free tickets for the whole family in the National Trust autumn campaign so we’re off to beautiful Shropshire for the day.

stormelf · 30/10/2022 10:22

Attempting to get homework completed, reading books read, five year old party to go to later on and fit in the pumpkin carving later on

freespirit333 · 30/10/2022 10:25

I love these threads, they’re so cosy.

DC stayed over at MIL’s last night, so I had a lie in until 7:45 new time! And breakfast and a cuppa in peace. DH has now gone to meet her at DS1 swimming lesson and will be back before lunch.

We are off to Center Parcs tomorrow so this afternoon will be packing and carving the three pumpkins we got at the pumpkin patch yesterday.

Simonjt · 30/10/2022 11:02

We’ve spent the morning tidying the flat, it was an absolute mess. Grandma had the smalls last night, so we’re picking them up at lunch time.

School starts back here tomorrow, as we’ve had a busy week we aren’t really doing anything exciting today. We’re having pizza for dinner, so I need to get my arse into gear and start the dough soon.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 30/10/2022 11:12

Currently in bed with a sleeping toddler, half debating having a nap myself after a late-ish night with friends!

Visiting family this afternoon for pumpkin-carving and a roast dinner. Later it’ll be tea in front of NowTV, or the Grand Prix if DP beats me to the remote!

lucysmam · 30/10/2022 11:46

@Rebelmcstreettuff Room on the Broom display props finished. I'm so pleased with the tiny brooms 🧹 I keep picking them up for a look 🤣

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone doing today?

Fabulous! @lucysmam you are very talented.

FayeGovan · 30/10/2022 12:03

Yes you are @lucysmam . I was always hopeless with crafts but luckily had boys who had no interest either 😁

Emily1583 · 30/10/2022 12:15

Watched my boy get covered head to toe in mud playing football this morning. They won though yay 🙂 then I spent the last half hour cleaning the bathroom after his shower....🫤

PinkButtercups · 30/10/2022 12:19

Not much. We had a Halloween party last night for DS so it's just a chill day today. Carved our pumpkins this morning ready for tomorrow. DS has an inset day tomorrow so he will come to my 9am appointment with me then we will chill watch some Halloween movies and go trick or treating.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 30/10/2022 12:46

I'm off for a whole week with my DS and decided to come and visit my parents (in a very beautiful part of the country Grin). So this morning I was up first, made myself a cuppa, stared at the countryside and then went and ran 8k! It's the longest I've run to date, I'm not very fast but it's just such an achievement for me.

Currently cuddled up with DS on the sofa and planning to watch the football later (totally not my choice but hey ho!) Grin

StillMedusa · 30/10/2022 13:26

I'm in Australia for 3 weeks so it's midnight here!
The weather is unusually cold (just my luck) where we are, but we are in an Airbnb on the beach so I've been watching a storm rage over the sea and watching local people walk their dogs (and an Alpaca!) on the beach when the rain stopped :)
My DS1 now lives here and is getting married next weekend so today I have been helping my DIL-to be and her Mum make the wedding favours and some decorations (they are very crafty), chilling, laughing, and just loving being with my son and DIL-to be as I have missed them so much since they moved to Oz (her country)
I've also cuddled a koala and stroked a very chilled kangaroo!

Tomorrow the weather is bad again so we will go for a wander, maybe visit the shops and just marvel that we are on the other side of the planet!

EsmeeMerlin · 30/10/2022 13:40

We woke up a little late as we had my sister's family round yesterday and went to our city Halloween parade and firework display last night. It was a rush to get to church on time this morning. We then met DH to go for Sunday lunch. We will go home for an hour or two and then back out for our church light party tonight. Ds2 is autistic so am hoping he copes enough to get some enjoyment out of it. Inset day for the children tomorrow so I don't have to worry about homework/school uniforms/packed lunches tonight.

Decafflatteplease · 30/10/2022 13:45

Love a Sunday @lucysmam thread.

We've had a lovely cosy Sunday so far, took one DC to a birthday party this morning and had a coffee with some of the other mums there which was nice. DH and other DC have been doing homework.

Everyone just pottering around this afternoon, I've got some laundry to hang to dry, and a few jobs round the house to get sorted including back to school usual finding of coats shoes bags etc.

About to get my comfies on, might even get a sneaky afternoon bath 🙂

Toad in the hole and kale for dinner with sticky toffee pudding and cream afterwards.

Gin later with TV while I do some ironing.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 30/10/2022 17:21

Love your Room on the Broom, @lucysmam !
And happy birthday, @merrymelodies ! Hope you’ve had a lovely day.

We took DD(8) over to my parents’ for lunch - something we haven’t done for ages, as she doesn’t cope well with being in other people’s houses. But my mum’s in the final stages of a terminal illness and we wanted DD to have a chance to see her before it’s too late. DD gave DM a lovely hug and kiss and said goodbye to her so sweetly that I had to fight back tears.

We’re home now and just lolling around until it’s DD’s bedtime. So relieved we’ve survived half term! School uniform is all washed and ready. DP and I will probably just have snacks later and watch something mindless.

merrymelodies · 30/10/2022 17:36

Thanks for the birthday wishes Smile

legosunqueen · 30/10/2022 21:39
