Do we have a clock change moan thread yet?

Sorry if we do!

Both my kids are sick, neighbours on both sides had loud house parties last night so couldn't get the kids to sleep. Dd1 then woke up at 3.00 (old time), threw up twice and then dozed/call me of and on until insisting on getting up at 5am (new time). Dd2 woke up then too, and now we are all sleep derived and watching crap on you tube. Should have been an extra hour of sleep, instead it's just an extra hour of being tired, annoyed and worried.

I sympathise you don’t want another hour when DC are ill. Where we live there were fireworks last night, so dog was crazy barking most of the evening. Go to bed then foxes decide to have a fight on our front garden at around 1.30 am, again dog goes mad. Go back to sleep only for dog to wake up at his normal time of 6 am, when it’s 5 am. We told him the clocks went back, but unfortunately he’s clever but not this clever. DH got up and tried to change the cooker clock, failed. Clock in lounge needs a big battery, failed. Forgot about the other lounge clock. 30 minutes later, he brings a cup of tea and has now taken the dog out for a walk.

Yes, exactly! I think I would actually have been happier to lose an hour this time. Last night was a total write off, roll on tonight and the hope of some sleep!

We're in the south east too, so pretty much zero benefit in terms of light mornings. The only good part was an extra hour in bed and I missed it 😏

I hate it. Every six months it throws everyone’s body clocks and children need to adapt again. All this for a bit of light in the mornings.

Just to discombobulated you (even more!) it's not every six months.

If you live north of Manchester you wouldn't be saying this - looking forward to waking up in the light for a few more weeks

And down south! I'm up at 6.30 for work and it's been dark then for a while, even in London

I amend my previous statement.
I don't have to leave the house until 8 so pretty much zero benefit. Too tired to think straight...

I'm already knackered, 18 month old up at 5am. It's going to be a long day

Mine managed to stay in bed until 6. Sending coffee and strength for the day ahead.

DH is a vicar, it's All Saints Day today so major festival. DS has been up since 4.30 old time, came into bed with us at about 5.30 old time and then flooded his nappy so we’ve had to change the bed 🤦‍♀️ I didn’t get to sleep till 1am old time so we are both propping our eyelids up with matchsticks today 💤

All saints day is on Monday!

Mindymomo · 30/10/2022 07:16

I have to admit, at the age of 61 I always thought clocks changed every 6 months, never really counted the month’s before. I now realise it’s 7 and 5 months, you learn something everyday.

Tuesday!! Now I'm confusing myself...in any case, it's not today.

Swissnotswiss · 30/10/2022 07:17

Ds had to be up at 7am and dh set the alarm forgetting about the change...🙄

Mogloveseggs · 30/10/2022 07:20

It's lovely to get up in daylight again but...
dd rang at 4.15 as she couldn't wake the boyfriend up to get in after work (no keys) and she didn't have keys for here so I had to go and unlock the door for her to sleep here. She arrived half hour later and nattered at me till I grumped that I'd to be up in less than 2 hours so she sloped off to bed.
then the cat woke up!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 30/10/2022 07:22

I'd forgotten how irritating the clock change is when you have young children. My youngest is 9 now so we'll just enjoy an extra hour of drinking tea and morning TV before his Sunday football match.
I woke up naturally at 7am (old time 8am) children no longer wake me at the weekend just do their own thing if they're awake before me.

I drive some nasty country roads in the mornings, so 'for a bit of light' works for me.

@GlumyGloomer I woke up & it was starting to get light, id forgotten about the clocks! I'll enjoy it until it works its way to being dark again (which happens far too fast!!). I won't be as thrilled this afternoon though!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 30/10/2022 07:23

what have I been doing differently for 51 years, the twice yearly 1 hour clock change has never had any significant impact on my or my families lives ever.

comfortablyfrumpy · 30/10/2022 07:26

My dog got me up at 6am, having lost patience with me. Her bladder is still on BST.

She thinks clock change is an inconvenience and doesn't appreciate having breakfast an hour late ...

Same, I don't get the big deal with it?
And yes I do have a small child. I have friends who stress about it every time and adjust bedtimes 15 minutes a day etc and im like '... what?' We just roll with the whatever the time is?
How on earth do people deal with time zones when they travel, or jet lag, if one hour throws you so much?

lannistunut · 30/10/2022 07:28

For the first year ever I had forgotten this was happening so thank you for posting!

I will go and sort the clocks out now.

TheSproutOfWrath · 30/10/2022 07:30

New puppy woke at 4.30 which would have been 5.30 old time . For the first time in three weeks I would have got a lie in as she went down at 11pm and no wakeups during the night.

Photo for cuteness alert.

stayathomer · 30/10/2022 07:32

Oh god thanks for this op! We have to go somewhere today and I couldn’t sleep so got up early to clean ( place is in a state as we were both working the last few days and with kids looking for dress up clothes etc) and spend time with the dog and I got out of bed with our plug in clock saying 5 so I was out of bed at 4? Is that even right? It’s gonna be an interesting day … only thing is at least it’s nice and bright!

stayathomer · 30/10/2022 07:33

Oh cutie dog!!!!

OldTinHat · 30/10/2022 07:33

I woke up at 5am old time and couldn't get back to sleep. I gave up and got up and now I feel like I could sleep for a week!

PotentiallyPolly · 30/10/2022 07:36

How is it throwing off everyone’s body clocks? I slept the same length of time I always sleep, kids are still sleeping the same length of time too. It’s really not that big a deal, no adjusting needed Hmm

No young DC here, the teens are quite happy to stay in bed but I was awake from about 3.30, finally managed to get back to sleep and the DDog wanted breakfast and a wee.

She's snoring under a blanket and I'm wide awake again 🤦‍♀️
