What would your perfect day be?

DS has had a rubbish few days due to being away at a wedding and I really want him to have a lovely day tomorrow. What would a perfect day for a toddler look like I wonder? Smile

Mine would have had totally different wants at 2yo.

DD1 would have chosen to just spend time at home, doing some baking and playing with me. She wouldn't have really minded what else she did as long as it was together. She'd still go for that, but with a takeaway in the evening.
DD2 would have wanted to be out, at something like soft play or the playground and eat lots of ice cream and chocolate. She'd now go to the theatre. Probably to see Heathers for the 500millionth time.
Ds would have wanted to go to Brooklands museum or an airport to watch planes with a fruit salad to eat. Another treat for him was cleaning the oven. Grin He's now in his teens and would probably go for salad rather than fruit salad and definitely go for the airport or Brooklands rather than clean the oven. Grin

Feed ducks. Soft play pm. Role play cafe type place. Painting indoors if rainy

2 year olds really don't need extravagant plans to keep them happy but they are needy for mummy attention.

Do you have a garden?
My DS aged 2 loved digging in the mud, getting wet and muddy in the garden, he had spades made out of wood, a water sprayer from BnQ, a few toy diggers and he'd be occupied for ages so long as I was paying attention too, to play pretend and go "wow" at his amazing building site now and then 😂

If you don't have a garden, a play park or beach, or nearby woods? Somewhere you can both just relax and use nature for fun, bug hunting etc?

These ideas are all lovely Smile

Second the riding the bus. Both of mine loved the bus at that age and it was novel as we have cars.

We used to get the little local bus into town, buy an overpriced comic of their choice, usually driven by whatever plastic tat was stuck to the front, and bus home again. Bonus points if we could stop off at the train station to see the 'toot toots' and there was some form of cake or pastry involved.

Floydthedemonbarber · 29/10/2022 22:46

Trip to the playground, back for lunch and nap walk to a corner shop/supermarketlater to buy some chocolate buttons. Play with playdoh. Toddler food heavy dinner. Long bubblebath.

5am. Peppa Pig.
6am. Peppa Pig.
7am. Peppa Pig.
8am. Pancakes and Peppa Pig.
8.48am. Tantrum because not allowed to watch Peppa Pig in the toilet.
9am. Peppa Sodding Pig.
10.05am. Attempt to go out. Tantrum because this means turning Peppa Fucking Pig off.
10.09 - 11.28am. Whinging that you want to go home and watch Peppa.
11.52am Tantrum because you're home and Mummy wants to go to the toilet without putting Peppa the Cunting Pig on first.
1.21pm. Tantrum because you want to go out and jump in puddles like Peppa the Bastarding Porcine but Mummy cruelly made the sun shine, so tells you there aren't any muddy puddles.
2.53pm. Start to doze off for 22 seconds when you realise Peppa has been turned down a bit. Throw a tantrum.
Rinse and repeat over the evening.
7.30pm. Start howling and wailing about spiders because Peppa saw a spider and it's scaring you eight hours later.
9.24pm. Wail at Daddy that you want to watch Peppa Pig. And the fucking prick puts it on your phone because 'it's not going to hurt for five minutes'.
Repeat until 11.37pm.

I don't miss the toddler years.

😂😂😂

mathanxiety · 30/10/2022 05:24

Simple, ordinary fun stuff he loves, but most of all time with you.

Caspianberg · 30/10/2022 05:32

My 2 year old would like pancakes. Then out on his running bike a while, visit neighbour on route who gives him biscuits. Home for sandwich and fruit. An hour tv if refusing nap. Then baking cookies or mini muffins where he will eat half the ingredients whilst making. Help sweep and jump in leaves in garden. Long bath. Pasta for dinner.

TeenDivided · 30/10/2022 06:14

kicking the autumn leaves and finding pretty ones.
cake.

Whatsleftnow · 30/10/2022 06:29

Mine would have enjoyed a long playdoh session, washing the windows with a big sponge or water painting the garden walls or playing at the sink. Playing ball with me. Cuddles and story time. Pulling all the pots and pans out of the cupboards.

MovingOnUpp · 30/10/2022 06:58

I want to be 2 again and revisit this magical time.

fortifiedwithtea · 30/10/2022 08:08

Mum making fairy cakes and toddler licking out the bowl.

a play-doh session

walk through the woods picking up interesting leaves, sticks, etc

having a go on the swings

Magn · 30/10/2022 18:30

@NeverDropYourMooncup better scared of spiders than going around and collecting Mr skinny legs to show mummy 🤣

Orangedaisy · 30/10/2022 18:53

@Spicycurry i hope you have had a great day with 2yo, am curious what you ended up doing…. Hope it was idyllic rather than tantrum filled!

wibblewobbleball · 02/11/2022 21:58

Just wanted to say thanks for starting this thread OP and everyone who commented. I had my last "special day" with my DD (2)
today before my next baby arrives - we have a day off work / nursery every week, and usually do something nice but towards the end of this pregnancy I've been feeling crap so we have mostly stayed in or had a midwife apt be our only activity. We had dippy eggs and soldiers for breakfast, went to a very quiet toddler soft play session, had a packed lunch in the car followed by nap, then went to the post office (her fav thing is to carry the parcels in and then the receipts out!), and then watched a film cuddled up together. She had new bubble bath for her bath and then we read going on a bear hunt. She went to bed very happy and now I am too! It really is the simple stuff with toddlers isn't it Smile

Changechangychange · 02/11/2022 22:02

At that age, a trip to see some animals (aquarium, zoo, city farm all popular). Then reading stories or playing trains with Mummy all afternoon.

MammaWeasel · 02/11/2022 22:04

Stories. Lots and lots of interactive stories.

SomePosters · 02/11/2022 22:05

With my toddler getting to choose the colour of her plate was apparently the highlight of your day

surely you know best what your kid gets excited about

Frieya · 02/11/2022 22:20

JanglyBeads · 29/10/2022 21:31

Anything involving your undivided attention ?

This with lots of storybooks so can cuddle up but if going out a walk in puddles park if easy reach and if want to spend money nice drink and cake in a nice cafe or pocket money toy.

bigshoutingday · 02/11/2022 22:34

This is such a lovely thread!

Mine would include a trip for a babychino in a proper cup with a spoon. Then walk home through the woods and collect every stick and jump in every puddle. Lots of stories, lots of silly play. Soup for lunch.

It really is the simple things. Would love to hear how your day went OP!

ehb102 · 02/11/2022 22:41

Letting the child lead was magical for my DD. She liked to explore, I would follow her around the country park. Then the playpark. If I would.play too we would.be there for ages. Puddles, excellent. Feeding ducks. Pooh sticks. Cake at a cafe - wow! Being carried home on my shoulders.
Play doh. Bubbles. A massive bubbly bath after.

Loads of cardboard.

  1. Get pulled around in a box
  2. Sword fight with rolls of cardboard.
  3. Make a fort/castle/House with a big box
  4. Picnic lunch in a box
  5. Cover flood in cardboard and draw in felt tips
  6. Draw a road on the cardboard floor for cars (or forest for dinosaurs/animals)
  7. Torch & shadow puppets inside a box
  8. Paint the cardboard floor
  9. Cellotape all over the cardboard (no purpose to it but my toddler loves tape)
10. Make a robot costume

Never mind the toddler, I'm in. DD(12), DS2(15) and the cats would enjoy it too.

spottygymbag · 03/11/2022 19:48

This is exactly what I need for today. I have Fridays with DS and I'm determined it won't be about chores today!
Now where did the moving boxes go...
