How to clean girl nappy area?

Can’t believe I’m asking this but first was a boy! 🙈

Obviously I go front to back but am I meant to separate the labia and wipe in those creases as well? Baby has some v mild nappy rash on her bum, not sure if I should check inside of the upper folds as well? Baby is 2 weeks old and we are using cotton wool and Water wipes.

I had this with my daughter, my first was a boy and I genuinely didn't know where to start. I gently go round the inside of the creases with a wet wipe or cotton wool, stuff does get in there so needs cleaning out, obviously very gently and carefully. Congratulations on your little girl.

As we're getting a few reports about this, we wanted to say that, while we can never totally vouch for any poster, we've no reason to think that the OP isn't genuine. If we did, we'd take this straight down. Thanks all.

Particularly runny poos get everywhere, they can even go slightly inside the vaginal entrance. If parting the labia and a gentle wipe around the exterior doesn't get it out then pour lukewarm water over the area and wipe gently again. Use a nappy to catch the water and it usually does the job with a particularly messy poo.

I had to get my midwife to show me as I genuinely had no idea.

Thank you for the replies. I an seeing the health visitor next week, will ask for a demonstration. I have just been worried about her getting an infection and don’t want to hurt her. Honestly this is genuine but if it is a safeguarding issue, happy for post to be removed.
