Back sweat ruining my life!

Honestly I know that sounds dramatic but it really is!
I'm a 40 year old female. Still regular periods and no obvious signs of peri, am overweight but not massively and am still fit.
When ever I go into work though the sweat starts POURING from my back, it's honestly like someone has just poured water over me. I work in healthcare so have to wear a light tunic and it's so obvious to everyone 😕
I don't know why it only seems to happen in work, I'm happy there and not nervous and it's not even like it only happens when I'm busy.
I go in then go right to handover in the cool nurses station for handover and as soon as I'm 2 mins in I can feel it happening.
I don't even sweat from the underarms it's the back mainly but also my forehead (temples) but at least that is easy to wipe away.
I've tried all the deodorants you can think off, spray/stick etc also tried talc and wearing a thin top under my tunic but nothing helps!
Someone commented on it a few days ago and it made me feel so self conscious and like I don't even want to go back.
Has anyone any advice?

It’s probably anxiety that is causing it but best to get it checked out.

Excessive back sweating can be the result of a condition called primary hyperhidrosis, a medical condition that causes overactive sweat glands. This condition affects all parts of the body, but is often localized to specific areas like the back.

Is the tunic made of natural fibres?

cali206 · 28/10/2022 19:17

Sorry I should also have added I am on beta blockers and anti depressants and have been for years. I started taking them when going through a really hard patch and don't feel I really need them now but don't want to come of them just incase.

I think it's like 20% cotton 80% polyester. Will have to check though.

Secondary hyperhidrosis sounds likely I’d you are on medication.

Beanbagtrap · 28/10/2022 19:22

I'd try wearing a bamboo vest underneath

Just quickly read up on this, interesting stuff!

The sweat starts at the top of my back though so I think I would need more of a T-shirt to cover the area.

It is a common side effect of anti depressants

Have you tried Driclor?

Perhaps discuss Botox injections with your GP

See if you can get permission to wear a tunic made of natural fibre (or at least more than 50% natural fibre) because 80% polyester won't be helping the situation. Involve occupational health if you have to, especially as it may be your anti-depressants exacerbating the problem. It would do no harm to mention as well that you may be starting peri-menopause, there is a huge focus on employers becoming menopause aware at the moment.

I’d suggest a Lycra sports tops underneath to absorb the sweat.

I had Botox on my underarms due to excessive sweating, I don’t know if that is an option for the back?

How long does the Botox last? I'm sure it's expensive if it needs topped up every few months? Definitely something to look into though thanks.

I'll also look into a higher % natural fibre tunic. Thank you so much for all the suggestions I'm looking at them all!

I had this on my head, no medication helped, all doctors clueless. Cured it through acupuncture, absolutely changed my life.

mynameiscalypso · 28/10/2022 20:01

No practical advice but I suffer from this too - my back, face and shins are really excessively sweaty. I'm also on anti-depressants and it's only really started since I switched medication but I hadn't made the link before. It's horrible though. I feel gross so much of the time. You have my deepest sympathy
