Sky Crime.

Libby Squires’ murder. Her mother is incredible.

Watching this... it could have been any of us. Libby did what students do- went out with her friends. Just awful 😢

It's horrific. It happened where I live, and the places I used to visit as a student, the park where I took my children. That poor girl. He should have been picked up before it got this far.... dangerous man.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/10/2022 00:39

So many reports of him before it happened.

Such weird behaviour too, wanking at doorways etc. What on earth was his story to make him so utterly sick?

Lisa is incredible, such a brave woman.

TheZeppo · 29/10/2022 18:23

Just finished it. What an incredible woman Lisa is. Really, really amazing.

Oh I need to watch this. It happened in my home town 🙁

Happylittlethoughts · 29/10/2022 22:51

Watched it over the last few days and it has haunted me. I listen to, and watch, a lot of true crime stuff , so thought I was a bit desensitised. Oh that poor family. An excellent documentary that gave such a human, honest and intimate portrait of a beautiful young girl and those who loved her.
Reminded me so much of my girl who's away at Uni , doing just what Libby did. Our relationship is very similar too.
Such a heart breaking story . 💔

Watched part 1 of the series. You’re right she’s a lovely woman. Libby’s dad telling the police Libby and her mum were seen as one being they were that close, heartbreaking.

Caught a few of her interviews this week about her wanting to meet the monster that did this to find out how Libby died. I dearly hope she gets the answers she’s needs.

Poor Libby did what many (most I’d say) of us did at Uni and that’s drink one too many to the point she needed to be taken home early. Her housemates did everything right in getting her a taxi which brought her to her door. Poor taxi driver got emotional too.

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2022 08:25

i don’t think so can bring myself to watch it. It’s all in my City so horrific.

Georgeskitchen · 04/11/2022 09:09

I watch a lot of true crime documentaries but just can't bring myself to watch this atm.
Seeing the parents and loved ones of murder victims talking to the media is heartbreaking x

ChipsAreLife · 04/11/2022 09:19

I thought it was incredibly moving. You could tell how upsetting it was for everyone including the police and the taxi driver.

Her mum is amazing. I read in the news she wants to meet the killer. Very brave lady.

Amoreena · 05/11/2022 14:29

So sad. What a disgusting pervert the killer is. I felt for the taxi driver who did nothing wrong but was really upset by it.
The mum was so close to Libby that when she first went missing and they drove to Hull, the mum said "she's in that water" as they drove past the water, like a sixth sense.

drkpl · 05/11/2022 14:33

I watched this last night. It really hit me emotionally. I was stupid at that age too, and I would often go out walking around while drunk after a night out if I was in a paddy about being sent home. I didn’t seem to understand the risk I was putting myself in. It could have been me.

Me too 😢you think you are invincible at that ,thabkfully most of us dont meet violent predators ,and will probably wake up with a sore head
Poor Libby.

TheZeppo · 06/11/2022 19:18

When I was 21, I got out of a taxi too far from home. I was incredibly stupid and decided to hitchhike the rest of it.

An off-duty police officer saw me. He offered me a lift and showed me his police ID.

I got in.

luckily for me, he was genuine. He made me text a friend his details before I got in and took me straight home.

Sarah Everard is haunting. It could so easily be any of us.

I keep coming back to this thread. I’m a secondary school teacher.

What can we do?

PayPennies · 06/11/2022 19:21

It could be our daughters. Mine is 2, and asleep upstairs sucking her thumb. How will I ever let her go out without us :(

TokyoSushi · 06/11/2022 19:30

Thanks so much for highlighting this, just starting episode 1 now, will come back...

TokyoSushi · 06/11/2022 22:26

Gosh, watched episodes 1 & 2, how awful, she was just doing what young people at Uni do. Her Mum seems so lovely. Really really sad.

yesitssea · 08/11/2022 09:47

I just watched it. I had some thoughts.

How on earth was he not picked up before? So many reports of crime in a tiny area, likely many more unreported incidents. Makes me wonder why/ how the police don't map clusters like that? Especially sexual crimes.

How shite are CCTV cameras? They had to look at so many to get a car reg.

How scummy were the garage giving the papers that footage?

I remember at the time thinking the police didn't seem to be progressing this fast enough - how can a girl vanish when she was dropped at home by a taxi? In a built up area with presumably lots of cctv. This series has made me think again, they were always working so hard on finding her, and had actually tracked her pretty quickly.

Last thought. They had him on camera driving into the street down to the park and out again 14m later. They estimated it took him 8m (they did tests with a weighted dummy) while at the park to get her to the water and back to his car. That leaves on 6 minutes for the rape and murder and drive down to the secluded area and back again. That's crazy. Poor poor Libby.

TokyoSushi · 08/11/2022 10:13

I agree with all of your points @yesitssea it must have been a terrible attack all being done so quickly. The bit with him and the drone was also particularly chilling.

You'd also think that the police would have put 2 + 2 together with all these things going on in such a small area, but likely that they just got filed under 'minor' and nobody joined the dots. I keep thinking about it, just awful.

jamontoastaddict · 08/11/2022 18:04

Just watched this.

My home town and neighbourhood until I was 18. Left for in 1999, so many changes.

I have sat in that Bench in Carson stages of drunkenness outside the Haworth many many many times.

The distances are incredibly small 2-3 minute walk.

My overwhelming feeling is that it is harrowing, that Libby and her mum and family are beautiful people we need more of and finally that the police did an amazing job of 'old fashioned' detective work in finding him.

Rest in peace Libby, you beautiful, wonderful woman.
