Selling jewellery items advice

I want to sell my wedding and engagement ring.
Bought for £1500 + £1000.
I made enquiries last year but the jeweller stores said they would only buy for the item weight which is about £350 in total.
I enquired at a jewellery auction online who also suggested £350 plus fees deducted. I find it hard to believe these two very beautiful rings would sell for so little. I don't know where is best to try and sell? Any advice?
Both 18 carat yellow gold, engagement ring has 3 diamonds and the wedding band was bespokely made.

Unless they are remarkable you are looking at scrap value; ie weight of metal and stones.

Yes, unfortunately you usually can't sell jewellery for a lot - I'd go to a couple of local jewellers and ask what they'll give you for it, then sell it to the highest one.

That’s the reality

Take off

  • 20% VAT
  • Retail mark up

Its just the scrap value left

Unless diamonds are over 1ct they are junk gems apparently.

I wouldn't sell jewellery where you're sending it by post/courier. Too much risk of "you sent an empty box" to me so you lose the rings and the money.

Either sell it to a second hand jewellers or have it cash on collection only so buyer inspects, gives cash and leaves with jewellery.

Yes, I'd worry about being scammed somehow on Vinted etc. as well, whereas you get the money as cash from a jeweller.

£350 is generous in this day and age. I don’t think you will get more trying to sell privately and you risk being scammed.

A post in there suggests looking at cash for gold companies and seeing who will give the most.

I sold some for scrap, unfortunately I can't remember the company, because there was an option to have the jewels returned.

Diamonds can be sold separately.

2nd hand jewellery is worth naff all unfortunately.
Weight only

The bespoke one you could ask the maker if they would buy it back Or resell on commission as he might be able to command a higher resale value if sold through him.
