Duct ecstasia

I’ve been to the breast clinic today and been diagnosed with ductal ecstasia after having some non spontaneous nipple discharge.

consultant told me to leave it alone and see if it heals but gave me an appointment to return in 3 months time.

everything I’ve read says that this doesn’t require a follow up appointment and they will only do surgery if it’s problematic.

now I’m thinking they think it could be something else and that’s why they want to see me again.?!

has anyone had this?

Yes, I first got it about 12 years ago. I was referred on to the breast clinic, who did ultrasounds (just a couple of small cysts which is pretty normal) and tested the discharge for nastiest - nothing found. The consultant said as there was no way to tell which specific ducts were doing it the only thing they could do to stop it was remove all of them. Don’t know about you, but I’m generally pretty happy with my boobs apart from the discharge (which like yours was not spontaneous so not really causing me any dramas) so I decided that was just too drastic!

I think what’s concerning me is they want me to go back in 3 months. Why? Everything I’ve read including the leaflet they gave me said follow ups aren’t required unless it causes issue but when I questioned them they didn’t really answer just said it’s so I don’t get lost in the system if it gets any worse

I’d take it as a positive, sometimes we get fobbed off but it looks like your clinic are being thorough. Doesn’t mean they think it’s anything more sinister, just that they want to make sure

Thank you. It’s an outpatient appointment. My mum said it will be so that if it stays the same or disappears they can say ok on your way but if it gets worse or other symptoms appear I don’t have to go back to gp.

my anxiety levels have come down a lot.

thank you all for the advice and reassurance that you have given me even though your dealing with so much yourselves.

I wish you all the very best.

for all of you awaiting tests I hope you get positive outcomes xx
