Our Future Health

Heard about this on the radio the other day and it got my attention.

It sounded a very good idea and if taking part prevents others from getting serious illnesses in the future then I think I would be a willing guinea pig.

Apparently you have to go to a clinic local to you - I'm in Greater Manchester, one of the trial areas and have BP, height, weight recorded, blood tests and genetic screening.

Just interested to know if anyone else is considering volunteering for this

Tia

Our Future Health is a sham and should be shut down - I can hardly believe the NHS let them get away with this. Shocking. They steal our DNA and sell it.

My DNA is with ancestry and other genealogy companies so I'm not bothered to be honest.

I had my appointment today. The girl taking the blood was very new and obviously still learning. She was being mentored by a fully trained nurse. She did well though to be fair.

My blood pressure and cholesterol were normal and I wasn't given any results to take away.

Has anyone else been contacted afterwards due to an issue with the actual blood tests? My platelets are naturally low and always flag up on blood results.

electricpeach · 03/07/2023 15:38

Do you get to see your results??

They record and advise you of height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, but are clear ahead of the appointment that you will only be contacted about other results if something is identified which warrants further medical attention.

Carly65 · 04/07/2023 11:21

That's the problem - they don't tell you if they find anything wrong with you and they are not obliged too. The only results you get are your height and weight, blood pressure and cholesterol. Call the helpline they'll even confirm this. Even if there's something life threatening they wont tell you!!

If you hadn't have gone, you wouldn't have known anyway!

I received a letter and initially thought it’s a great idea. Having worked with partners to public / government organisations I thought I’d do a bit of checking. I then looked around for info on Our Future Health and found employee ratings are not very good and incl comments about good people but a chaotic and ego based organisation . For me, it does not inspire confidence at all.

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/09/2023 08:21

I got an invitation to do this and initally was keen to take part. I did the online survey, however it was really hard to find somewhere convenient to do the blood test, so I kind of forgot about it and they never contacted me again.

Nin93 · 01/09/2023 11:17

I did Our Future Health and got flagged for high cholesterol. Follow up blood tests also revealed anaemia which is being investigated and treated. Looking back I had symptoms: fatigue, dizziness, tingling in hands etc. but I just put it down to perimenopause. It never occurred to me to go to the GP. Glad I participated otherwise I probably would have still been struggling on.

Research shows that there are links to Dementia with people that have Periodontal disease. It maybe worth requesting your dental records or asking the dentist if you have any signs of it. It is an invisible disease and you can have it years and not know.

YoYo111 · 16/10/2023 19:17

Your post is exactly why I came on here to see what ppl thought of this " trial" all sounded ok until you read more into it and they are collecting DNA and I thought wtf that's dodgy territory passing on your DNA especially with how crap security is now days and it's open to anyone over 18 ....

Looks to me like they trying to get the DNA of the whole of UK population 😳 via the backdoor !!!

Who knows whos hands it could get into in future , lots of implications......

WithLove007 · 19/10/2023 20:39

Optimistically, I was really interested, I started to complete the questionnaire. That’s when I felt this was more than just about health. Then I received a lot of marketing emails about health insurance.

After thinking okay sadly not for me, the next stage was very interesting, you can’t just unsubscribe, you have to phone number and then they give you another email to process before you can delete, not how it should be.
If you want to get out it’s not a straightforward process. Now I’m not sure sure of the NHS BRAND, It sounds like a good idea but my hidden alarm bell was going off.

If you have high cholesterol I'd start changing my diet. A doctor may also suggest statins.
If your doctors says there's no record then ask them to do a blood test.
