Batch cooking - where to start?

Hi all I'm looking for advice and tips on batch cooking. I was brought up by a single parent who worked long hours and I was very much left to fend for myself when it came to food, usually a ready meal or similar. I've never been one for cooking from scratch - in fact, i have no clue where to start. Soup is from tins and chicken etc is frozen Birds eye etc but I really want to alter my eating habits. If anyone has any good recipes (especially ones which don't have two dozen expensive ingredients or take ages to prep) then that would be fab, thanks.

I also found it great to put into Google what you have in the fridge eg: butternut squash chicken easy one pot recipe and see what comes up (and if it can be frozen)

I always mash a whole bag of Maris pipers on Sunday afternoons then freeze flattened portions in freezer bags to microwave quickly while I fry steaks or grill lamp chops for example. Broccoli to boil for 5 mins and it ends up being a quick dinner.

bolognese is obviously great (and he eats it). Lots of mushrooms in there stretches it further and makes it a bit cheaper.

Curries also usually freeze well and I try to do ones with lots of spinach or a veg so I don’t have to make a dahl too then I just have with microwave rice.

Also have you thought of doing the free trials of hello fresh and gousto and reusing recipes you like?

I save the plastic takeaway boxes that fit into each other and don’t take up too much room in the freezer

OP I do a different sort if batch cooking c that may interest you with less freezer space. I do it on Sunday evenings for the week. It then keeps in the fridge for week nights. Occasionally I'll freeze something g for the Thurs or Fri, but I tend to do vegetarian dishes for the end of the week and they don't always need freezing.

I also portion them all out into individual meal-sized smaller boxes so they can be put (tipped!) on a plate and microwaved.

One easy thing I do is I a big batch of roast veg with some roast chicken legs and then mashed potato. Sometimes sausages instead of chicken. Then put everything in Tupperware in reverse order per person so it tips out in correct order on plate!

Thank you everyone, your replies have been very helpful. I've ordered an online shop with ingredients for a couple of different meals which saves me spending an eternity wandering about the aisles gathering all these new things. I'll get cracking at the weekend, wish me luck!
