How to opt out of GP data sharing

I've just been listening to Radio 4 where they have been discussing GP records being uploaded and many agencies will be able to view them. I want to opt out of it but cannot see how, I phoned my GP and they didn't know what I was talking about.

I know there was "care data" and I opted out of that but this seems to be something else.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

You can find details on opting out here OP www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/about-the-nhs/opt-out-of-sharing-your-health-records/ (assuming you're in England - if not there are similar orgs for other parts of the UK). It also has more information of what data is shared and how it's protected. I'd be very surprised if other agencies were allowed access to the full (identifiable) records though.

FFS is this going to come round again? Have lost track of how many times I've opted out - these should be opt in not opt out.

Thanks for posting @tulips27

I'm hoping this is to catch all those who have grown up and weren't eligible to opt in/out before (eg school leavers), a sort of every ten years type thing. Definitely not good if they want every single adult to keep opting out every ten years 😯

I don't know, I'm honestly really confused even after reading my GP's website, the NHS website and that site a random person set up for opt outs. I don't understand the different opt-outs. I think it's been set up that way.

Follow @MadamWillYouTalk link, there's two different opt outs on it. Maybe your gp doesn't know about the second optout.

Thanks, sorry to worry everyone. There does seem to be two opt-outs, I'm not clear on whether having opted out before will carry forward or not. More worryingly, I can't remember whether I applied both opt-outs or not, as it's so long ago.

My GP's receptionist didn't seem to know about all this, that's not to disparage them as they are excellent generally.
