My 3 DC ages 16, 14 & 12, over the last few years have expectedly got less and less excited for Christmas.
It’s still October and I don’t usually start thinking of the festive season until at least November.
Like most parents ( I think) I am usually handed a list from each child with things they want, I pick a few things off each list and throw in some of my own surprises, this is how Christmas is usually done, right?
Well, this evening, I had a brainfart, and suggested that instead of the individual customary lists, they all write the list on a single piece of paper, they won’t be writing who wants what and they won’t be writing their own “wants” in their own handwriting (although I have heard the suggestion of writing some of their own “wants” in their own writing just to throw me off)
So, for the past 2 hours, I’ve had all 3DC huddled away in the dining room, concocting the list, I can hear them all sniggering and just getting along and having a laugh.
I just know that Christmas Day is going to be as much fun because none of them will have a clue if I’ve got the right child the right gift, I mean, I don’t know how 16yo DS will feel about receiving fake eyelashes 😂
And one of them has asked for a plant 🤷♀️ no idea which DC wants that but it’ll be dead by Christmas in my care, unless they’re just having me on.
DH is going to useless at this game, the only satisfaction he gives me during Christmas prep is whilst I’m suffering unbearable backache waiting for him to whip out his little… finger, to hold the wrapping paper in place of course.
Does anyone else do anything a bit different and fun for the older DC?
