As the title says, I have a spare child free hour to do as much as I can. It’s all quite bad at the moment jobs wise, so any job you can give will need doing! Lovely mumsnetters, hit me with your lists of things you’d do if you only had an hour - I need inspiration! 😁

Get a rubbish bag, go around collecting rubbish and stick the bag in the wheelie bin.

Collect all posts/pans/glasses etc that need washing and place in or next to sink/dishwasher.

Wipe down bathroom sink and bleach loo.

Quick hoover living room.

Empty bins.

Do washing up.

That's the order I'd go for anyway and im Queen of a quick panic tidy 🤣

Definitely clear kitchen counter tops..
wash up n put away
Clean cooker
Then blitz the loo n sink
Clean the bath/shower when u next go for a bath or shower..
Put toys away in a basket

Do all this while playing some fast paced songs..
If u have spare time get the hoover or mop done...

Put music on loud and you can have some chocolate/ wine/ your favourite tv show afterwards!

CrapBucket · 25/10/2022 19:31

Clean and dry the sinks and toilets.
Hoover the floors.
Make a pile of crap that needs sorting.
Shove it in a cupboard.
Spray and wipe the kitchen worktop.
Light a candle.

ShortDaysLongNights · 25/10/2022 19:31

Fresh bedding, put on a wash, take out bins, put washing away/in wash basket, blitz around with the hover, clean bathroom and wash up. Ready, steady,go!

Montague22 · 25/10/2022 19:31

Spend 15 min in each room with a timer:
Entrance
Living room
Your bedroom
Kitchen

Work around the room in a clockwise direction

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 25/10/2022 19:35

I'd concentrate on the bathroom and kitchen - if you try to cover too much ground then you won't see as much of an improvement.

I would put a wash on. Load the dishwasher or hand wash the dirty dishes. Wipe down the kitchen worktops. Mop the kitchen floor. Clean and bleach the toilet, bath and sink, mop the bathroom floor. Leave some zoflora in both sinks and add hot water so both rooms smell fresh. I'd then declutter the living room to rid it of anything that shouldn't be there and dust and hoover the living room if there was time left

Hollyhead · 25/10/2022 19:37

Brilliant this is what I needed, I should have mentioned I have some adhd type traits which result in paralysis by procrastination, or getting super focussed on one area so I’ll have a glistening downstairs loo but a kitchen disaster if I’m not careful.

So far I’ve - rearranged the sofa

  • collected plates/mugs/bowls from around the house
  • put the dishwasher on.
next up kitchen surfaces and floors….!

I would:
Clean up kitchen - wash pots, wipe surfaces
Clean bathroom (s) - loos, sinks, taps, bath
Sweep kitchen floor and run round with hoover downstairs.

If time - tidy one room - gather up toys, crap, newspapers, phone chargers, random shoes - pref living room - and put where they should be or at least in right room

TicTac80 · 25/10/2022 19:41

if you have enough to put a load in washing machine, stick that on first. Ditto dishwasher. Then stick some bleach in the toilets, wipe down sinks/mirrors, make beds, hoover, tidy up, mop the floors.

NB I have a small house (3 bedrooms, one bathroom, and just living room and kitchen) - and a cordless vacuum cleaner - so hoovering is quick, as is steam mopping the floors.

lololola1987 · 25/10/2022 19:49

Pour neat bleach down all sinks and toilets. Might not clean much but will smell cleaner!

Hollyhead · 25/10/2022 19:52

Right - kitchen finished for now

  • litter tray emptied
Next targets— clean loo, put clothes wash on, put 25 items away!

Get off mumsnet!

great news about the kitchen

also as other people have said concentrate on one or two rooms only. Don’t try to do a bit in every room, you won’t see any difference

when my house is messy I blitz the kitchen and bathroom. Makes me feel a lot better seeing them sparkling. I then do little and often in the other rooms

Goldbar · 25/10/2022 20:53

I'd pick something that normally doesn't get done. We have several 'corners of doom' in the house that are essentially dumping-grounds for stuff so I'd attack one of those.

Hoovering, kitchen, loos, dishwasher, laundry, bathrooms etc. will all get done at some point as they're part of the routine and will need doing again very quickly. I'd want some long-term improvement from my hour.

A580Hojas · 25/10/2022 20:57

Gather up the rubbish, empty the bins, clean the loo, pick things up off the floor. Come on! you know what needs doing really. You don't need a kick up the arse, adhd or not.

BakewellGin1 · 25/10/2022 21:12

Black Sack - All rubbish in and into outside bin
Load washing machine and switch on, any other into laundry basket
Pots into sink, wash, dry and away
Spray and wipe all kitchen surfaces and mop floor

Spray round bath, shower, sink, toilet... Leave 5 min while cleaning floor and then rinse
Bleach down all toilets/sinks etc

I do this every morning while kettle boils and bath runs as house is open plan and looks like a tip quickly

I follow up with front room hoover and dust (I tidy this room every night or I start my day annoyed)
