Confused about journaling!

I've always been a 'digital' person — I use the calendar/notepad on my phone and that's that. Recently, I stumbled across the world of nice stationary, bought a beautiful notebook (it has a very minimalistic design but it has THE MOST GORGEOUS PAPER I've ever felt) and some lovely fountain pens.

The problem? I'm not sure what I should use it for! To be honest, I'm a bit scared to even write anything in it because silly as it sounds, the whole set up is so pretty I don't want to 'ruin' it with my horrendous handwriting and errors that will have to be crossed out as there isn't a delete button. What do you write about? I need ideas!

Lists, plans etc. This week we've had lists related to planning a birthday party... invites, food etc, and a list of possible holiday destinations. Or are you specifically wanting to use it like a diary/ journal?

I don't journal - or at least, I don't call it that, but I keep a diary. I started in the pandemic and mine has what I did, didn't do, weather, thoughts on various events (including in the past), how I feel about things and peopel in my life past and present - it's like a writing therapy sometimes. And it has lists, as well - music I like, books I want to read, places I want to visit.

Oh and plans. Retirement plans, holiday plans, flat decoration plans. Anything you want, really.

I personally don’t like journaling - I find it awkward! I like creative writing but pen on paper seems a bit slow once I get in the zone, my hand can’t keep up with my thoughts.
But I am a sucker for nice stationary and I do like the process of writing on paper as it’s very relaxing. So I’ve started writing book reviews for what I’ve been reading - a reading journal basically.

I keep a journal and have done for 20 years or so. Not every day, but a little bit when I feel I need it. Usually helps when I need to plan something or make a decision about something. Or just how I feel in the moment.

I once read a creative writing book that said keeping a journal makes you a better writer, and to write whatever is in your head for 5 minutes a day. Then 10 minutes, and build up slowly.

All great suggestions — thanks! I know it's all very silly and it's just pens and paper but I'm oddly excited to bring this notebook out with me to a café or something and just start writing in it!
