Help with a job interview

I have a job interview on Wednesday for a position that would change mine and dcs lives.
I have over 10 years experience in a role that although isn’t the same is very similar and the skills I have are transferable to the new role.

However, I am an awful interviewee and I need to be 100% prepared if I want to even get my foot in the door, so please help.

Obviously I need to research the company, but where do I start and what do I research?

What do you say when they ask you to tell them about yourself? I’m not one for talking about me.

Research the companies core values and history of the company.
When I'm asked to tell them about myself I just introduce myself and give a brief background of work history

What does the job advert say? I would look at the qualities they are looking for and put together some examples following the STAR method - situation, task, action, results.
Dont be afraid to sell yourself and good luck!

Get a book of interview questions from the library or buy and have a story to tell about how you did something

So - tell me a time when you faced a challenge, what did you do, what was the outcome?

Practice taking through the examples.

Look at the skills they want - they need to know you can do the job with evidence you have the silks.

You tube videos also. Indeed website has lots of examples of questions too and help.

Talk slowly, take your time. Is it in person or online? In person bring all your stuff with you and refer to it if you need. If Online, stuck post it notes around your computer with hints and examples.

Good questions to ask them.

Good luck!

They will want to know that you are excited about working for this company, and to feel that you will be loyal and hardworking because you 'believe' in them over and above liking the day to day job and wanting the salary.

It's a good idea to find out what they say their purpose or mission is. It may be really obvious - eg if it's something to do with education or medicine etc - but if not try to have a root around their website to find out what they 'stand for'.

Also try to find out who is interviewing you and look them up on LinkedIn to get a feel for them. It can also pay to look up the CEO and find out what they're saying in articles / blogs etc .

I've always found it effective to ask the interviewers questions about themselves - try to get them talking about their own careers as well as telling them about yourself. Eg you can ask about how they got into it and what they love about working for the company.

Good luck!

Thank you, I’ve already had a phone interview and they sounded very pleased with me, after obviously viewing my cv and our 30 min conversation and have offered me a second in their offices.

I’m absolutely nervous as hell!
I have a portfolio of some of my work already so will take that along and do what others on here have suggested.

Remember you are also interviewing them, so have questions for them in addition to answers, and your research.
