Period pain relief

What works for you? I'm contemplating trying these and need other ideas!
https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/beyou-monthly-period-patches-5-pack/12949009.html

I've had dihydrocodeine, naproxen, buscopan, paracetamol all max dose, and a hot water bottle. Childs pose bizarrely is the only thing that's helping a little but I can't stay in that forever Grin

Any out there ideas or alternative remedies? It's like constant griping cramps all over my stomach and into the tops of my thighs

I did ask about ablation but they said no as I don't have children
It's eased a bit today thankfully

Another vote for mefenamic acid. Game changer! Also makes periods alot lighter.

Dry weed vape

Where do you get these please?

We bought the vape on Amazon. Dh gets the weed from his friend's brother's mate who grows a bit and knows other "horticulturalists". So much more effective than any of the pain killers I've been prescribed.

I alternate ibuprofen lysine and paracetamol, start the day before I’m due and then at regular intervals until day 3. Doesn’t stop the pain entirely but keeps me able to function. Hot water bottle also helps (or if I’m driving use the heated seats in my car).

TooMinty · 25/10/2022 14:27

Not for you OP as yours are more serious but for anyone with milder cramping...

A colleague recommended Andrew's Liver Salts and I definitely noticed an improvement, never would have thought of trying them! Ditching tampons and using period pants instead also helped me.

Ponstan/mefenamic acid. I get bloated pain and my whole lower back aches on the first day of my period. 2 of these tablets make them go all away.

I should of course add a caveat to this and say that my period pains are nothing compared to what you describe and that you should follow the advice given above and press for a referral to a gynaecologist because that amount of pain is simply not normal. If a man had to suffer through that every month then you can guarantee that he would not be fobbed off and sent away.

I've heard, as previous posters have suggested, that starting the pain relief before the period actually starts is very helpful. It must be awful. I've had terrible period pains, but nothing like what you seem to be experiencing.

PeloFondo · 25/10/2022 23:28

Well it was fine today, then tonight I'm in really bad pain again. Not totally convinced it is period pain now Confused as my period isn't heavy
Taken buscopan, naproxen and dihydrocodeine
Almost feels like norovirus type cramps so I'm going to see if it stops with my period as due to finish soon

Cannabis and CBD tampons when I can bare to wear one. Also I find sitting on the toilet and bearing down helps

@GarfieldsAunty I've been twice and nothing suggested except the pill
I came off the pill as I don't do well with hormonal contraceptives. They mentioned I probably have endo but there wasn't much they would do for it except put me on the pill or mirena which I didn't want. And that was that Sad
I've had trans acid before and the other one but they didn't want me on it long term

Frustrating! I didn't realise it wasn't normal until I mentioned to someone about day 6 period pain and they were Confused because my pain is day 2 - day 7/8

Oh this makes me so cross!! I was told similar, that I should have Mirena, and if I didn’t want Mirena or hormonal contraceptives I would just have to live with it (period pains). Argh!! I really don’t feel myself on hormonal contraception.

anyway- I also second mefenamic acid. I think I was given it for excessive flow ? Rather than pain. But it helps.

another thing which has helped me is Livia -basically a mini tens machine which you wear under your underwear! It really works. Tiny zaps of electricity basically distracting your brain from the period pains (it’s better than I am making it sound !). Google it !

PeloFondo · 26/10/2022 10:22

Currently waiting for the doctor. It's not improved Sad

They lied through their teeth if they told you endometriosis was untreatable. You need a diagnostic laparoscopy. If you need treatment you will get it then too.

Consider seeing a surgeon privately if you can. You can't go on like this.

PeloFondo · 26/10/2022 11:00

So the period was a bit of a side issue, I've actually got (in the doctors words) a raging UTI

OP posts:
halfpasteleven · 26/10/2022 22:31

Hope you feel better OP and that whatever they give you for the UTI works quickly

PeloFondo · 26/10/2022 22:43

I've got trimethoprim and feeling rough. It's definitely UTI feeling now, think the period pain was sort of masking it

PeloFondo · 28/10/2022 22:45

Update that I had to go back and now have another 7 days of antibiotics
I don't feel any better at all so they said they're extending the course, and they've sent a sample off
Blood and leukocytes when they dipped it today and I've already had three days of antibiotics Sad

Word of warning a good friend of mine always had really painful periods and then developed ovary cancer..

She had actually had endometriosis and this has fused and the cancer grew off it? Something like that..

DelilahBucket · 29/10/2022 09:05

I take paracetamol and naproxen. I start as soon as I know I'm coming on (pain starts before bleeding) and have to make sure I take the paracetamol every 4 1/2 hours and naproxen 2-3 times a day.
I'm on the combined pill, a low dose. This helps with the bleeding but not the pain unfortunately.
I once had a (male) doctor insist I should be able to manage my periods on paracetamol only. I laughed at him. Without pain relief I can't even stand up let alone function.
