Boring query
how long do you expect a hoover to retain suction power?

mine is packing up after three years...is it worth a repair? Getting someone round to do that looks like £80.

I've a miele which is 4 years in. It's a workhorse with variable suction control BUT being corded it drives me nuts. It comes out on weekends only as I use handheld Bosch (5 yrs old) for running round during the evening

Thanks
I think the previous one lasted 7, 8 years? 3 seems a bit rubbish. It's Shark.

I have an upright shark and find that when it loses suction, cleaning the filter out solves the issue. On mine the filter is under the dust container thing

I did that and it was fine for a couple of weeks, now gone "off" again. It's choosy. It doesn't like the rug.

Oh and the roller stops periodically, though nothing is stuck.

Have you got a corded upright type? I’ve got the NZ801 and always forget that there’s another two post-motor filters at the front behind a grill that need to be washed too - have attached pic from my manual.

Re. the roller stopping - have you taken it right out (the front fluffy one I mean)? Sometimes you can get a significant build up trapped behind it that you can’t see until it’s removed.

My Shark came with a 5 year warranty, it’s about a year younger than yours though? I’ve found that their email and phone customer care is very good, and will go through troubleshooting with you.

Thank you Another
I wonder if I registered for a warranty online and forgot 😳
I will check on that.

I have a Sebo Felix bought in 2011 still going strong. I have had a few bits repaired over the years, the cord became loose and recently I broke a flap on it. Both easily repaired locally for around £20. Thoroughly recommend it. It's not bagless which I think helps with longevity. It's also a copy of a commercial vacuum cleaner which again I think makes a difference. I wouldn't buy any other brand now.

I work with a client who repairs vacuum cleaners (www.vacuumdoctor.co.uk) and he'll tell you that Sharks constitute a large volume of his repairs, Dyson as well. As the previous contributor has mentioned, Sebos are an excellent brand. Most professional carpet cleaners will use Sebo, so I tend to think that if they're good enough for them, they must be pretty good.
